There are many restaurants that are within a short distance from campus. You can find everything from your cheap fast food at McDonald’s to fine dining at King George Inn. Being able to explore all of the restaurants in the area is definitely a benefit of having a car on campus. Don’t worry though—the Muhlenberg Shuttle will take you to most of the big restaurants near campus, and you could even walk to a few of them if you were desperate. Buca di Beppo and the Shanty are two popular places that are on the more expensive side, but it’s typically agreed that they’re well worth the money. All of the big chain restaurants are easy to find, and Allentown also has a great variety of smaller, privately-owned restaurants. Most of these places, such as LoBaido’s, are located downtown and require a little more searching.

As far as restaurants go, there isn’t much that Allentown doesn’t offer. Although the food on campus isn’t bad, it can lack variety. For this reason, eating out is one of the things that students enjoy doing off campus the most. It’s great to be able to get off campus for something other than the usual Garden Room or GQ selections. Most students would eat out more if they had more time and money. Luckily, there are restaurants that are close and inexpensive. Yet, there are also a number of restaurants available for special occasions or when the family comes to visit.

Lots of Options

There are a lot of great places both near and around campus. If you go downtown, you will find a lot of great food from different ethnic groups, and also great restaurants by the mall and in the West End.

Local Dives

There are not that many places within walking distance from campus that students have access to. The Tavern usually doesn't allow under 21 after around 6 or so and the Farmer's Market is only open on weekend mornings. There are many diners and fastfood places that are 24 hours but you have to have a car so be sure to find an upperclassman to befriend.

Food Is Pretty Decent.

There are plenty of places to walk to or call in. Some are pretty fancy, some are pretty cheap, most are pretty good and a welcome change from campus dining. It gets easier and more convenient once you have a car on campus. There's some pretty unique places you can go for food here too, like the Allentown Farmers Market.

A Dining Experience To Remember It is not uncommon to find a group of students to dress up and go out to dinner together on the weekends. Students can easily get to T.G.I. Friday's, Carrabba's, and Friendly's via the shuttle.

Halloween on the Town The campus does like to take part in Halloween. It's common to see people walking around in costumes starting the Friday before. Students will also wear them around town—to the movies, restaurants, and other local hot spots.
