Older buildings for classrooms, the grounds are beautiful, due to eco awareness and planting.

We can have snow days and we just had a flood a few weeks ago that shut the campus for 4 school days.

We have a great computer lab, and free copies. IT support works well, too.

Bus routes work pretty well. I drive due to disabilities that prevent me from comfortably getting on and off the bus.

I don't know much about the general Academics at Naropa. I find it to be a stretch for me, but I've never been exposed to academia before this experience.

I thought I'd want to be involved in the writing program, but after taking a class with the Dean of Peace Studies, I changed my mind. I will get a bachelor's in Peace Studies, and a master's in Somatic Psychology. I would like to work with peace concerns at the international level. I know I'll be able to find a job.

Great support from our financial aid office. Everyone seems interested in getting the most available for each student.

Guys & Girls:
Brilliant young people, ready to save the world, by healing themselves, first. This school attracts committed people in regard to Peace Studies, Environmental concerns and writing and literature. There are also many artistic types. It's a great place to meet really unique folks.

The Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poets began based in the Beat Generations tradition of drinking and drug taking. Naropa University was founded in 1986,and before that it was Naropa Institute, founded in 1974. Many in the hippie generation were drawn to the teachings of our founder, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, who escaped the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1959. He was a Tibetan Buddhist and his lineage was called 'Crazy Wisdom.' He did not support drug use among his students, but he drank a lot of rum. He was a wise and wild teacher. There is an element of experimentation with hallucinogenic drugs at Naropa, and plenty of drinking, but it's not a focal point of the scene here.

There is no 'Greek Life' at Naropa. I don't even know what it means!

There really isn't a "Night Life" at NU. It exists off campus.
I have received scholarships before for the summer sessions, but my computer was not working at the time and I was a day late for fall scholarships, financial aid would not give me an extra hour to submit my application, therefore, I have no outside aid for Fall 2013.

The Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics has phenomenal, down-to-earth professors. I definitely have no regrets being at Naropa. Though some people feel as though Naropa is not solidly-grounded in academia, the writing programs certainly are. Though I'm majoring in Writing & Literature, I plan to stay at Naropa for the MA Transpersonal Counseling Psychology program. Most students at Naropa are really interested in multiple majors, and if I had come to Naropa as a freshman, I certainly would have designed an Interdisciplinary Studies program. However, I transferred in with 57 credits, making it difficult to have enough time take all the necessary classes.

Naropa has no sports teams. Most students at Naropa seem to prefer it this way.

Boulder is a haven for artists, entrepreneurs, nature enthusiasts, and sustainability advocates. The CU atmosphere can be a blight on the landscape, especially if football, beer, and barbecues aren't your thing. Other than that, the town is one of the most progressive in the country, particularly the startup scene. People here are innovative and passionate. There are tons of gyms and yoga studios. People like to keep everything local. There are many small businesses that are thriving. The architecture and city planning is superb, and the public transportation system is efficient and easy to use. There is a lot to do in Boulder.

Naropa only has the Naropa Cafe, but that is all we need. The staff are really friendly, genuine people who will remember your name and give you a hug. The food can be hit or miss, but when it's a hit, it's phenomenal. It's decently-priced and great to split with another person. They always have vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, not just at the cafe but at most events. All students basically live off-campus (student housing is also off-campus), but the Flatiron meal plan is applicable to an incredible amount of restaurants in Boulder.

You can find it if you want it, especially with CU nearby. Recreational drug use is common in Boulder and not particularly frowned upon. There are bars, but for an actual club experience, go to Denver. You can call a cab, but most places students live in Boulder are walking-distance (30 minutes or less). I don't know many Naropa students that are into the club scene. Even if they are old enough to drink, the only bar I've ever heard Naropa students talk about it a sushi bar. There are many great ones throughout Boulder, and yes, they serve drinks, too.

printers are not very reliable, it is better to have a personal computer and printer at home.

I pursue a MA degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology at Naropa University. It is my first semester here at Naropa, but I love everything so far. It is very experiential school. Starting with the first month of studies we already are practicing the skills we learn in classes. Although the assigned literature is very interesting, it is hard to keep up with readings (grad school). The professors I've had so far are all amazing. They are very personal, intelligent and kind people. Overall, I am very happy that I chose Naropa University.
College Junior 2012-12-27T05:10:17Z
I personally did not meet any Greek students yet on the campus.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
