Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Heterogeneity is not New College’s forte. To be fair, most of its peer institutions suffer from the same ailment. New College is a relative bargain for in-state students; therefore, most of its populace reaps that advantage. Because it is a fledgling college, NCF hasn’t been able to garner the reputation necessary to achieve optimal diversity. But one thing is for sure: This is only true if one takes a narrow conception of diversity. When it comes to sexual preference, socioeconomic status, age, intellectual interests, and personality, New College has much to offer. It is a campus full of outspoken, unique, and vivacious characters.

The student body has voiced its complaints to the administration over the lack of racial and cultural diversity, and Admissions does what it can to satisfy the demand. New College itself is not economically or racially diverse, however. The campus has been opening many dialogues regarding diversity, and it is an issue close to many students' hearts.

Accepting of All Types of Diversity--Except Diversity of Opinion

Though almost completely white, New College is a very liberal place and is generally very accepting of all races, classes, religions, and sexual orientations. The students' accepting attitude is something they take pride in. However, the few conservatives I have met on campus have all felt ostracized to a degree. If you don't agree with those on campus, you won't be well-liked.

Dont Confuse Self-Righteousness With Unacceptance

not very diverse which fuels continual discussions on the topic. pretty accepting, there are all sorts of people who attend ncf and are seemingly comfortable-- although our discomfort is more often than not directly occurring because of ourselves.
