Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Most Novo Collegians choose to live on campus. For those who would like to escape the tightly-knit community, some options are available. The most luxurious of these options are the houses on Bay Shore Road that have been historically rented out to students by their owners. Bay Shore Road is a gorgeous, upscale street that cuts through New College. Located on it are the Ringling Museum of Art and numerous residences that appear on the National Register of Historic Places. Living off campus in one of these houses is almost like living on campus.

Unfortunately, these options aren’t always available, and they require multiple students collaborating to share rent. When this is the case, apartments in Bradenton are sought after for their low prices and proximity to campus. Commuters often report alienation from campus events, but some prefer the anonymity and privacy. With the exception of some local houses, large student gatherings tend to stay on Palm Court. Accordingly, the choice to leave campus is often the choice to leave the New College social pipeline.

Good Options but Hard to Get

There are lots of really great houses ranging from EXTREMELY cheap through expensive around New College. Plenty are within walking and biking distance. Lots of houses have been rented by the New College family for years, get passed from student to student, and have New College friendly landlords. Unfortunately, it can be hard to be granted off-campus housing from the college since they fill the dorms up first.

There Are Numerous Off-Campus Housing Selections Near Our School That Save a Lot of Money.

There are many apartments and common houses that are often familiar with New College students. I've found that many are occupied by groups of friends and they seem to be of fair quality. The ones I have seen are pretty close to school and students help each other find places to live.
