The reason so many people choose Sarasota as their retirement and vacation destination is typically the impeccable weather. With breezy mornings, spectacular sunsets, and no snow, Sarasota does little to disappoint. While some prefer seeing the seasons change, others appreciate the fact that they can wear short sleeves in the winter.

Because Sarasota is in South Florida, however, it is subject to hurricanes. Fortunately, the administration is well prepared to deal with such natural disasters should they ever come. It is not uncommon for classes to be cancelled because of storm warnings. Sudakoff Center on campus is an official storm shelter that is used to house students if ever necessary. Hurricane warnings are a part of the Florida lifestyle, and Novo Collegians are used to it. It’s nice to be able to go to the beach whenever one feels like it. It’s nicer to never have to deal with plowing snow and turning on the heater. What isn’t nice is the fact that it can be brutally hot in the late spring. But with sun block, short sleeves, and endurance, Sarasota can be the paradise it is reputed to be.

Rain

Whoever surveyed the land prior to laying the promenade tiles must have been smoking dope - it floods whenever we have rain. Sometimes a stream forms behind third court which attracts a fair number of foully-behaved ducks (no pun intended.) If you find living in a swamp every couple of weeks to be acceptable you probably will have no problem with the weather.

Florida Is a Beautiful Place (If a Little Hot) and Sarasota Hasn't Been Hit by a Hurricane in 60+ Years.

Nearby Siesta beach frequently places in the top 3 beaches in the world. Lido beach is immense and beautiful. There are numerous nearby parks and the sunshine complements them wonderfully. If you love sunshine, this is as good as it gets.

Sarasota

Well, we're in Sarasota so it's almost a tropical climate. Lots of afternoon thunderstorms in summer/ early fall, almost never gets to freezing. It's great from about November through March.
