Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The breezy mornings, vivid mid-day sunshine, and spectacular evening sunsets contribute to making Sarasota a travel destination of renowned stature. It is not entirely unheard of to wander to the pool in the dead of January to find a dozen students sunbathing. There are so many picturesque areas on campus that are perfectly supplemented by ripe sunshine. The lack of seasonal change can inspire a bit of nostalgia for home amongst the Northern-bred student population, but many have sacrificed the four seasons happily to avoid the bitter winter cold with which they grew up.

While the weather is typically gorgeous, it can often be unpredictable, as the area is sometimes plagued with intense rain and extreme heat. Hurricane warnings are dealt with swiftly and safely by the administration, though the less extreme rains prove to be a minor annoyance for students, as many parts of campus are particularly apt toward collecting deep pools of swamp-like water. This unfortunate circumstance can make the trek to class a very wet and uncomfortable experience. The heat is mostly an issue in the early fall (it seemingly is always a miserably sweaty time during move-in week) and in the late spring. But with sunblock, appropriate clothing, and some healthy mental and physical endurance, Sarasota can be the paradise that it is reputed to be.

FLORIDA SUN!!!

Coming from the Northwest, the sun here is so nice! Although it gets hot at time, we're on the bay, so we get a nice breeze. And we have a pool, and air conditioning in all the buildings.

Rain

Whoever surveyed the land prior to laying the promenade tiles must have been smoking dope - it floods whenever we have rain. Sometimes a stream forms behind third court which attracts a fair number of foully-behaved ducks (no pun intended.) If you find living in a swamp every couple of weeks to be acceptable you probably will have no problem with the weather.

Florida Is a Beautiful Place (If a Little Hot) and Sarasota Hasn't Been Hit by a Hurricane in 60+ Years.

Nearby Siesta beach frequently places in the top 3 beaches in the world. Lido beach is immense and beautiful. There are numerous nearby parks and the sunshine complements them wonderfully. If you love sunshine, this is as good as it gets.
