Some of the best features of NJIT are its libraries and lounges; they are very modern, well-designed, and comfortable—as much a visual pleasure as they are helpful and fun. The libraries have extensive databases, with significant information available online for student convenience. The lounges have ample furniture and amenities. In terms of academic buildings, the science labs and theater, on the other hand, are a bit rundown. These areas and the buildings in which they are located are older facilities. The equipment is not as efficient, the seating often uncomfortable, and the design bland. When it comes to breaking a sweat or hosting a campus program, the athletic center is very new and can act as a venue for many different events. While somewhat old, it's still in good condition. The equipment is replaced when worn, so the treadmills, rackets, nets, and other such items are always in fine condition.
Despite all of the facilities and amenities, students tend to get very bored on campus. There are not enough facilities to entertain a significant portion of the students at any given time, and the student organizations have trouble hosting enough events to make better use of the limited space or equipment. Many students go home whenever possible to avoid the boredom.
