I enjoyed my time here and was able to grow as a person, but I'm not entirely sure I made the best decision possible.

Community Colleges don't have post-grad services, silly.

The way the testing was set up made it very difficult for me to give my best effort in a subject a love.

Alot of the professors here are very nice! They tend to just hand you work and think you already know how to do it. When you ask for help they are there to a certain extent. I just wish they could be more active with students.

I love the online courses only 1 out of 6 I have taken were horrible.

The student body at my school has many different ethnic people they accept probably everybody to get their prerequisite classes out of the way. Mainly people interact well but lots of goofing off and not many serious people it seems like.

Honestly I don't know anything about any of those areas.

I really enjoy the classes I have to take for my degree, they're all extremely interesting to me and I'm glad I decided to pursue this path. I'm not taking quite as many credits as what I'll need to take if I want to graduate on time, I feel like the full course load is a little hefty. I enjoy my teachers very much, they're very involved with the students and are extremely helpful. All of my teachers come across as very passionate about the subjects they teach. My last two semesters I will have an internship which I am extremely excited about. It just seems to be that the professors really want to see their students succeed and are willing to go that extra mile so that they are successful.

There are two campuses, one in Dublin and one at the mall In Christiansburg. I attend the Christiansburg campus because it is closest to home. There is no common area for students to socialize so I haven't really met many of my peers.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
Financial aid is available and relatively easily obtained, however the process in which to begin receiving financial aid is kind of confusing.

The student center at New River has hosted many different events. There are has been live music along with comedians, personnel who give tutorials along with motivational speakers. The areas has many vending machines and a few times a week the different athletic and academic clubs provide lunch to help raise money for their program and the college.

There are tons of different programs that are available there. They have bulletin boards throughout the campus where people can arrange various babysitting services, jobs, items for sale, car pooling groups, even lost and found pets. The college is very hands on with their community and there are many different volunteer opportunities.

The diversity at New River is generally larger compared to other community colleges I have visited. A lot of the students are here on school visas and plan to transfer to Tech or Radford. New River is great in the aspect of how they try and help the various ethnic groups understand and learn everything that they need to know to transfer.

There are various labs on campus and it is easy to find them all. However, they do have problems with Blackboard and they do maintenance on the system at least once a month. Thankfully, it is never when due dates are and it is always when we have a break in the semester of some sort.

financial aid office should be more willing to help student's get some grant and scholarships instead of pushing the student off to their web site

There are many computer labs so you can always find one available.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
The tuiton is great but the financial aid was a hassel. I was able to get loans but not any grants which is what I really needed.

The school is mostly local people ranging from just out of high school to middle age or even older. The teachers are great and very hands on. They are always available to talk to and answer questions.

My major at NRCC is Human Services. I am beyond pleased with the classes, professors and the advisor. The advisor is very helpful and set on helping you progress towards job opportunities once graduating or transferring to a four year college. The workload is never too overwhelming and if it is something your heart is truly into, you will find the classes interesting! There are a number of internship opportunities that will fit your interests!
Recent Alumnus 2013-04-13T14:04:30Z
The original reason I chose NRCC was because I was not sure exactly what career field I wanted to pursue. I figured this would give me an opportunity to kind of get a feeling for all of my interests so I could narrow it down to one. Attending NRCC also gave me the opportunity to work around my work and personal schedule. There was always a number of classes provided at various times throughout the day into the evening. I am also able to transfer most of my credits!

So far being here, everyone I have met are friendly. I was surprised to see that many are older than I am. I was looking for kids more my age.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
I feel as though the rate of tuition is high, especially when the counselors are recommending classes that are unnecessary. We take these classes and then find that they were not the classes needed to transfer to the 4 year college and then have to pay another tuition to get the correct courses. It's unfair to the student's who are struggling to pay their way through school.

I do not have a printer to print my school work. Being able to use the printer and having the wireless access has been a life saver.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
