It's Manhattan- you get all kinds of weather, but the city and school cleans up after. Washington Square park is beautiful in all seasons, but spring is definitely the best.

The food is fine, but you're in New York City, one of the world's culinary capitals. Put some money on your card, because almost anywhere around NYU takes it, even McDonalds on Broadway. Forget the meal plan and just make a separate food account in your expenses.

If you like snow in the winter and extreme, humid head in the summer then you'll like NYU! But otherwise, terrible.

Guys & Girls:
Very preppy, hipsterish and Stern kids are bros, mostly smart but they don't always want to have intellectual conversations. Most are into getting smashed at bars.

The Journalism department is open and willing to discuss fellowships and scholarships, and if you show a strong interest and work there's a good chance you'll get one.

Greek life isn't that great here. Much better at midwest schools!

I am a theater major, so it may be different for others at NYU. The curriculum is demanding (studio classes 3 days a week from 9am - 6:30pm, academic the other 2). But the professors are great and easy to talk to if you have problems. Registration is relatively easy as it is all done online. You just have to get on quickly :-)

FILL OUT YOUR FAFSA FORM ON TIME. My parents did not know that each college has it's own deadline and we missed it. They would not consider me for scholarship this year. My mom was told to fill out the fafsa anyway and I would be considered for next year. But now they say that if I was not considered as a Freshman, I am not considered ever again. I am following an "appeal" process to try to get financial help, but there are not guarantees! Those I know who did not "mess up" got a very helpful amount of money.

It is in the heart of NYC. What more do I need say? It is not your "normal" campus with lots of green spaces and mainly students surrounding you. You live in areas with lots of different people, and being in Greenwich is feels safe. The subway is easy to navigate once you get the hang of it. I can go see fabulous shows for a discount price (if you are willing to stand in line). If you want an urban setting, look no further.

NYU is the best college on earth! As a theater major, there is no other place to be. I love being in the heart of NYC. There is always some place new to see, some new activity to enjoy. While it is not the traditional version of what most people think of a college campus, it is perfect for me. Want green space? Head to Central Park or one of the many smaller parks scattered throughout the city. I love my resident hall with its view of the city, 3 bedrooms, common area, and kitchen. The buildings here may not all be new, but they have character. Kimmel is a great student center. The food in the campus dining halls is good, and the pizza in NY is the best! There are tons of affordable places to grab a quick bite.

It's the Village in NYC. Restaurants are everywhere, with plenty of affordable options. Vegetarian? Get $3 falafel sandwiches at Mamoun's.

Health & Safety:
I've always felt safe on campus, and staff is always ready and willing to help. Most people are open and welcoming, so I rarely felt threatened.

I will attend NYU for graduate school this Fall, But I am always around this area and it is lovely around Spring and Fall semesters. For winter its a bit too cold out to walk around and enjoy the weather.

They make an effort to have resources if you have a drug problems, but since this school is immersed in the city there are other venues for you to travel.

Its the city, parking is hard unless you go to a garage, which is then expensive for the most part.

Health & Safety:
Security guards at every location on campus really contribute to a feeling of safely in a notoriously not so safe city.

No one drives at NYU. If you have a car, you do not belong here.

Kimmel has computers to use near the commuter lounge as well as in the computer center on the fourth floor. In addition, the Steinhart building has an excellent computer lab on the second floor (next to Starbucks on West 4th) that has access to a printer and a variety of Mac computers.
Most students bring their own computers, however. Printing at the library is not recommended because you must purchase a separate library printing card. Bobst does not take campus cash.

There are definitely drugs here. Of course you can ignore them easily, however, pretty much everything but heroine is pretty common and accessible. I'd say the most common are weed, Molly/ecstasy, cocaine, ADD and anti depression meds as well as hallucinogenics--acid, shrooms, dmt...
As is stated below, drinking is most common but I think you'd have to be living under a rock to not notice drug use. That being said, no one's pressuring you to start using. Drugs are $$$ people aren't too eager to share. Usually.
College Sophomore 2013-02-25T08:04:25Z
My knowledge on drug problems are not very wide because I am not involve with people who actually do drugs. I give it an A because the people I speak and hang out with don't do drugs.
College Senior 2013-02-24T18:25:48Z
I personally have never seen drugs on campus. There are many places to get a drink after class; therefore social drinking is common.

I live in New Jersey therefore I take the train, The issue is that the trains do not run as frequently as I would like after 9:00pm. Having to wait an hour for a train after a night class is inconvenient. Other than that transportation is great.

The dining experience at NYU tends to be a bit of a mixed bag. Some of the halls, like Palladium and Weinstein are fabulous, and others like Rubin are hit or miss. They do have a Dunkin Donuts that accepts meals swipes and a Starbucks that accepts dining dollars
College Sophomore 2013-02-23T23:04:25Z
Lots and lots of good food options. Sometimes you might have to spend a lot of cash though !

Guys & Girls:
A lot of people usually have the misconception that the guys here are really hipster and not athletic. However, there are sports teams which do fairly well in their divisions and greek life. There are all sorts of guys here. The same goes for girls. The range goes from hipster to preppy, from rich to not so well off, and more. There are all kinds of people here.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
