It Exists--That's It – Plenty of students do drugs but not that often and no one is going to try to force it upon you. Living in the dorms, there's usually one or two floors where the weed wreaks, and rather unfortunately nothing is done about it. I have never had a problem with it though. It's just kind of there. Drinking is a whole other story, however. It depends on who you're with, but usually it's restrained to weekends.

NYU doesn't give many scholarships, but it doesn't matter because going to the school is worth it.

Life at NYU is excellent. There is always something to do in New York City and there is never a dull moment.

I am a huge fan of cold weather and snow, and New York City has very cold weather most of the school year. I am a big fan of it.

St. Petersburg College – There are a variety of dining options near my college. We have a Chilis Grill, Mc Donalds, a bunch of Greek Restaurants, Arbys, Subway, Burger King and many more.

Financial aid is pretty terrible at NYU. But usually if you apply for more, they'll give you a little more. We just don't have much of an endowment so pretty much everyone has loans. Though from what I understand from super-smart friends, they do have some nice financial aid for really high achievers in high school (I'm not one so I don't know how much)

The Journalism Dept – The journalism department is pretty intense but takes itself a little too seriously. Don't be intimidated by Foundations of Journalism- the classes once you get into your concentration are much better. Tons of internship opportunities. Faculty is great, but they don't like to give As.

Could Be Better, Could Be Worse – So here's the thing with NYU financial aid. There is a lot of money available, but because NYU tries to give at least some money to everyone, people often get stuck with less money than they need. On the other hand, some people get full rides. It's all the luck of the draw.
Your financial aid may be made up of any combination of loans, scholarships, work study, and grants.
The bureaucracy CAN be a big headache, but that's the case almost anywhere, and if you are polite, persistent, and patient, you will find someone who will happily help you.
It is true that NYU is very expensive. However, the education and experience is worth every penny, if you make the most of it. Furthermore, by doing everything you can to gather financial aid (from the school, government, and private lenders), the cost can be do-able.
In the end, things here financial aid wise are not perfect, but they are not horrible either. Most importantly, students and parents must remember that at NYU you get what you pay for.

You Won't Need It – A lot of people live on campus at NYU, so they don't have cars with them. As for those who don't live on campus, I don't know of anyone who drives to class--they either walk or take public transportation (both are incredibly simple and cost effective) to get to campus!
As far as I know, other than the normal "city parking" there is no "NYU Parking"

You Want It, You'll Find It – You can find basically anything to do at NYU and its "campus"...New York City! There are dorm parties, though these are easily busted (depending the RA), so I wouldn't advise them. If you're over 21 there are countless bars and clubs to choose from. There are some clubs that are 17 or 18 and older (or that have lax ID checking policies) if you're younger and into that. And of course, if you're like me and don't drink, you still have plenty to do--from restaurants to shows to movies to shopping, New York City has it all. Also, transportation in the city is awesome and easily accessible, you can often walk to your destination, and other alternatives include the subway, buses, and taxis (which often aren't as expensive as they sound!) You want something to do? You'll be able to do it.

They offer no money unless you're like Albert Einstein junior. Awful.

Pretty Good – The labs are only crowded during exams and they have both PC and Mac.

I'm biased in saying it's an amazing experience to be at NYU mostly because we're in Downtown NYC. You cannot get anything better than that. Of course, everything is spread out and there isn't really a campusy feel to NYU, but that's what makes interacting with others better. I'm in Stern and the community there is great. Everyone is friendly and helpful with any questions. Overall, NYU is the best for anyone that likes to explore the city, try new things all while getting an education.
Goddard Is Great, but Not for Everyone. My experience in Goddard has been great mostly because of the atmosphere, the easy access to classes, and because it feels more like a community in a place that is so large and diverse. However, not all the people in Goddard like the closeness of the people or that there are only a little over 200 students dorming in Goddard. Sure, it's more constrained than other freshmen dorms, but I wouldn't change the ability to get to classes in less than five minutes.

FAIRLY ACCEPTING, BUT HIGH COSTS – I USUALLY RESIDE IN NYU DORMS. THE WHITES AND THE PROFESSORS ARE FAIRLY ACCEPTING TOWARDS INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS, BUT AS I'VE SAID BEFORE, YOU GOTTA HAVE SOMETHING TO GET ALONG WITH THEM TOGETHER. THE COST OF LIVING IN NYC IS ALSO HIGH.

ETHNICIALLY DIVERSE, BUT YOU GOTTA BE ABLE TO GET ALONG WITH THE STUDENTS – PEOPLE WHO DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH AS FLUENTLY AS AMERICANS OFTEN FIND A HARD TIME GETTING ALONG WITH ACTIVE STUDENTS.

Mistakes Everywhere – My financial aid process is horrible. First they don't offer me much aid, then they say I am not financially cleared but they don't let me know until almost the deadline day. They messed up filing something and said it was my fault. While they were trying to fix this problem they messed up something else and charged me two times for my mom's PLUS Loan. Absolutely horrible.

The volleyball team seems very good. Tear It Up was very exciting. NYU girls' team destroyed their opponents.

The library is open 24/7 for students and it is very safe. Sometimes too crowded but when you need to do work, it's the best place.

Guys & Girls:
Just about everyone is very concious about their looks so everyone is very fashionable. If you're walking around in pjs, flip-flops and etc you look like an outsider. If you're a chick, the dating scene might be a little rough but if you're a gay male, you are set.

Kimmel is good until you get bored of it, and the buffet style dining halls are okay but start to also get repetitive but NYU is slowly trying to change this which is good. In general, dining halls are best if you have a meal plan. Lunch outside of dining halls is going to run you at least $10 so if you don't have a meal plan you're better off going outside these days.

Policies are not very strict. People pretty much do what they want all the time. Some people steal from the vending machine on a daily basis. RAs are relaxed and people have a lot of freedom.

Quite a few people join Greek life and those who do have a great sense of belonging and they view each other as family. Other people don't really view these people as any different because of their Greek life. Greek housing is not very available due to space constraints in the city.

Health & Safety:
There are guards at each dorm and building to make sure people either show their NYU IDs or swipe in, to avoid intruders. There is also a strict guest policy to make sure non-nyuers do not stay in the dorms in excess. However, the guards are not always attentive so it is not hard to bypass them at times.

NYU is definitely the campus of the world and New York City, with its emphasis on international learning and studying abroad in all subjects. They have individual career and academic counselors so almost everyone gets a job or internship after graduating - nowadays THAT is what is important. You pay a lot for it, but if you can swing it, it is totally worth every penny!
Sorry, there are no reviews.
