No matter who you are or where you come from, there is a place for you at NYU. While it is true that most of the student body hails from New Jersey, Long Island, and LA, the student population represents an incredible range of cultures and backgrounds. The students at NYU do a great job of both enforcing and breaking stereotypes about race, gender, religion, and other categories. Students can choose to join one or several clubs based on their ethnicities and spend most of their time with people just like themselves, or they can opt to steer clear of organizations that are based on race and form their own circle of friends.
Being in New York City, NYU definitely represents the entire spectrum of types of people. While well-to-do white students may be the majority, there is some of everything. In its events, organizations, and academic programs, NYU gives all students the opportunity to move beyond their comfort zones, and meet new and different types of people. NYU is a great place to redefine yourself, and every day you see people all around you at various points in the process. Overall, you will find people of almost any race, religious belief, etc.; thus, NYU is often a very accommodating community.
