College Prowler Take
NYU facilities are in and of the city, which means they are a mix of historic and cutting edge. The Brown Building for Science is in the original Triangle Shirtwaist Factory building. Many other buildings are just as old, and consequently many facilities aren’t perfect. They do, however, have that certain New York gritty-but-pretty charm. NYU is also finding money to renovate lots of buildings, including Third North Residence Hall, the Journalism Building, and the Gallatin Building. In general, classrooms, common spaces, and especially elevators can be crowded—being surrounded by people is the NYU and NYC way of life. A lot of the NYU experience takes place underground, literally. Because the campus is vertical, many computer labs and classrooms are burrowed beneath the surface of the city. It can be disconcerting to not see the sun for hours on end, but you get used to it. The facilities range from new and shiny to old and dusty, and all NYU students experience some of both.

The library is huge and very nice. NYU offers free printing labs throughout the campus, which are very convenient. There are two gyms, though Palladium is nicer than Coles.

Kimmel is great for club meetings and eating. Bobst Library has everything you need bookwise, though sometimes not on the shelf. Palladium and Coles are modest for athletics. They can be crowded a bit, but in general are pretty good.

NYU has a tons of facilities!...
NYU has a tons of facilities! There are two nice gyms, and the library is huge. The student center is great, and there's always something going on. NYU owns half of New York City basically, so the resources are unparalleled.

The student center is great and...
The student center is great and has tons of space and lounges. It's very nice and designed to let a lot of light in. The library is the opposite—it looks like a dungeon. The design is impractical, and during finals week it's hard to find anywhere to go. You need to book a study room a week in advance if you want to get one—there's just not enough space.

Favorite Things To Do
Free time is never wasted at NYU. The school offers very nice athletic facilities for playing basketball, swimming, and working out, a number of campus eateries, a $2 movie theater in the Cantor Film Center, and of course, plays that are constantly being performed by Tisch theater students.
One of the greatest facilities NYU has to offer is the NYU Ticket Central, which has discounted student tickets to popular Broadway shows and even free movie screening passes. For those on an even tighter budget, there are always shows being put on by the Tisch drama students, with prices ranging anywhere from free to $15. The Violet Café is transformed into a coffeehouse on a regular basis and hosts open mics and student poetry readings. For physical fun, Coles and Palladium offer a variety of clubs and classes. The climbing wall at Palladium is a great way to change up your work out. Mostly though, everyone’s favorite thing to do between classes is grab a cup of coffee and find a bench in the park or a couch in a lounge and take a few minutes to catch up with friends. Being that NYU is centrally located in an urban area rich with culture, students are not limited to University activities.
