Greek life at NYU has a very weak presence, but it still exists. Going along with the no-campus and almost-no-sports vibe at NYU, Greek life doesn’t play a major role in most students’ NYU experience, either. However, students involved in fraternities and sororities are quite active in terms of planning Greek events. Several fraternities and sororities are housed at the Lafayette dorm, and others have off-campus apartments where members live. If you find it appealing, you can enter the Greek circle and make that the focus of your time at NYU, as you stand the chance of finding friends, great experiences, and beneficial job opportunities through the connections you make in certain fraternities and sororities. On the other hand, stereotypical fraternity and sorority parties are a rarity.
NYU fraternities and sororities are definitely not stereotypical, with some being academic based, like certain business fraternities, while others focus more on community service, group activities, and events in the city. Most people participate in Greek life in order to find a close circle of friends, as doing so outside of such groups may be difficult. Overall, these groups are not necessarily exclusive, and they interact freely with the rest of the student body.
