College Prowler Take

When it comes to parking, most students agree on two things: it is very hard to park in New York City, and it really isn’t necessary to have a car. Few, if any, students have cars in the city, solely because parking is such a pain. Parking garages are expensive, and the meters can be even worse. Of course, there are also the special rules, such as “alternate side of the street parking days” and parking fines that are distributed with a harsh hand. Students say the best bet is to walk where you need to go, and if you have to, take a subway or bus.

To avoid the hell that is parking in New York City, do yourself a favor and take a subway or bus. They are surprisingly quick and convenient and not nearly as intimidating as they seem. Cars simply are not a part of life at NYU. Everyone takes public transportation and leaves their cars at home. It is actually very liberating to never have to worry about gas, windshield wipers, oil changes, or flat tires.

There are public parking lots for a price, but I don’t think too many students keep their cars with them at school.

Parking can be rough to find. If you’re only staying for the evening, then be ready to grab a spot at 6 p.m. That’s when most of the spots free up. Otherwise, be prepared to pay up some cold, hard cash.
