Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

At NYU, the idea of driving anywhere in the city is hilarious, as most students would agree on two things: one, it is very hard to find a parking space in the NYU area (that is, a free parking space), and two, it really is not necessary to have a car, with the array of reliable and affordable transportation options that are available.

Parking garages tend to be quite expensive, and spending money on meters is not the way to go because it is also very expensive and geared toward people who park for a brief period of time. Parking options also constantly change in lieu of the various activities that occur in the city. Most students believe that the best ways to get around are by foot (if you live relatively close to campus), the NYU shuttle bus (free of charge), and public transportation. Taking the subway or a bus is the way to go. These options are quick and convenient and not nearly as intimidating as they seem. Cars simply are not a part of life at NYU. Everyone takes public transportation and leaves their cars at home. It is actually very liberating to never have to worry about gas, windshield wipers, oil changes, or flat tires.

Nobody Drives Cars.

If you are a college student living on campus in New York City, you don't need a car. And if you drive one, you're stupid, and you aren't going to get anywhere faster than it would take to walk.

No Designated Parking

Seeing as NYU doesn't have a traditional campus, it is without a proper parking lot for students or faculty use. Street parking, therefore, depends on how many people are in the Greenwich Village at any given time. Given that this is New York City... there are always people in the village. Lots of them.

No Parking

NYU is located in the middle of New York City. Naturally, no students come to school with cars, and if they do, it is up to them to pay the high costs of parking their cars in the middle of the city. Generally though, it is understood that the danger of driving in the city and the outrageous parking prices simply aren't worth it.
