Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Norfolk State University is in an area where drugs and alcohol are easily accessible. That doesn't mean it's a bad college, though. Those students who decide to participate in the drug scene usually smoke marijuana. Because students cannot smoke it in their dorm rooms, they take it outside on local benches or even in their cars. Not only do guys partake in this action, but also girls. Peer pressure may be the reason why so many students feel it is necessary to take part in such activities. The campus police try to take action on those students who decide to sell illegal substances. Many random room checks are done, and those students who are caught suffer fines and, unfortunately, phone calls to parents.

As for alcohol, it's very accessible, being that many students are or above the legal age. When it's time to have parties, liquor becomes a strong item. The local 7-Eleven sells liquor, and students purchase it before they go out to the local parties on or off campus. Though Norfolk State is said to be a “dry” campus, students really don’t take that rule into play. If caught with alcohol in their rooms, students also suffer fines. After three strikes, students are banned from on-campus housing. It is best to avoid these substances in order to stay clear of violations.
