Drug usage on campus is not very popular, but it depends on the people you hang out with. You may smell Black & Mild cigars or cigarettes around, but it is rather easy to avoid. Some students choose to smoke marijuana off-campus and in other areas, but on campus, it is absolutely not tolerated. The University has a very strict policy on drug usage. Alcohol is preferred by most students. You will see the occasional drunk guy or girl returning to the dorm after a night of partying, but it is not a common sight. Some may be shocked at how small A&T's drug scene is compared to how the media portrays the college drug usage, but the Resident Assistants, faculty, staff, and campus police do a great job here. Although there are people in place to rid the campus of dangerous substances, it is not solely in their hands. As a student, you have a responsibility to make sure you stay away from or report any drug use you see occurring on campus. If you do not want to engage in drug use, make sure your friends know your stance on the subject and respect your decision. Some students take part in drinking and drug use because they see others doing it, but being steady in your decision will make it easier for you to resist. When you become of age, drinking alcohol is permissible. However, if you live on campus and have a roommate that is not of age, you are not allowed to ingest alcohol in your room or even house it in your refrigerator. These precautions are taken to ensure the safety of all students.
