It's North Carolina. The weather is often very unpredictable.. Once it rained so hard any and all steps around campus were turned into waterfalls. I went to class with water filled sneakers, and I was completely drenched. Rain boots and umbrellas are a great investment on any campus not just ours.

The amount of police and security on campus is very heavy which is needed in our kind of enviroment. They are very strict about undeage drinking , well drinking period, and other types of drug use.

Our varsity sports are a very big deal on campus. On game day everyone comes out to support our team, students, alumni, even the community comes to enjoy the fun in the sun.

Public transportation is available at NCCU. They run from the morning until the evening. They get you from spot to spot. They drop you off at the shuttle bus stops which are normally right in front of the building you need to go to.

Parking can be real rough especially at the beginning of the semester. But the real problem is when the landscapers park their vehicles in the spots we pay for. The parking real expensive as well costs $300.00 dollars a year.

The campus shuttle only runs during the day so at night if anyone needs assistance back to their building there's no one to help.

My freshman year there were tons of house parties and parties at clubs every single week. There still are parties going on but the night life gets kind of old after seeing the same people every week.

Campus life is what you make of it! If you don't get out there and enjoy the scenery on campus then you won't known what we have to offer. For example we have the art museum on campus, that some students don't know about. There it's quiet and beautiful as the exhibits change ever so often as they feature different artist. We have a pool I haven't been in it only because the time I spend in the Walker complex is usually in the gym or dance studio, but it's rather large and spacious! Great for swimming laps or just swimming with friends. Two floor gym space equipped with everything you need to get a full body work out. There are three libraries on campus the main one being three floors also have a computer lab and there are also other labs in some dorm buildings, and other classroom buildings. Explore campus and know what's out there for yourself.

In many areas we exceed expectations, but when it comes down to registration, and workload YOU should have all the information before going to see an adviser. They are there to help, and will answer your questions, but if you have mapped out your schedule, and know exactly how you plan to get to graduation it will be better than relying on them. Also talking to upperclassmen about specific courses & professors will allow you figure out what your workload will be.

My major is Dance Education, and because we are very new to my school (just starting our second year) we are housed under the Physical Education department rather than the Theater department, so I spend more class time learning about how the body works and health rather than actual dance. Overall the entire institution i would give an A, but my department specifically needs work. And we will grow and prosper!

Health & Safety:
Dorm buildings are relatively clean, but remember it can only be as clean as the residents keep it once the custodians leave. Campus police are relatively active on campus, slow to non emergent calls though. They do provide escort services at night on camps.

The process of getting into my business major was not hard at all. I applied to the university an instructor from my community college recommended me and I was accepted. Once here I spoke with an advisor who has been directing on with the types of classes I need to get my degree and she also suggested other avenues to help me through the process.

I am majoring in business management and thus far all of my professors have been very encouraging and supportive. I have gotten a number of emails congratulating me on how well I was doing in class.

Restaurants in the Durham area attracts many students. Being one of three colleges in the area NCCU has its beneficial discounts in some restaurants.

NCCU's Speakers Studio is a great program for students to improve their speech and writing. This is beneficial because many students do not know how to speak out to a public crowd and many do not know how to send professional emails.
