Health & Safety:
Big School Safe – I have never felt unsafe on NCSU campus. It is a big, but they keep it safe. You have to have a key to get into the dorm then into your own suite, so there is little chance of petty theft.

Experience Opportunities Are Plenty – There are tons of ways to get experience for your major including heaps of co-op opportunities. There are always top flight companies like Wells Fargo and Wachovia that give presentations and opportunities for interviews to get internships and co-ops.

Buses Always Available – Because we have an engineering campus separate and somewhat far away from our normal campus there are always university sanctioned buses running and they can take you just about anywhere. On top of that, most of the popular apartment complexes have shuttles that go to and from the main campus for students. You can definitely survive NC State without a car.

Greek life has a decent reputation on campus. It seems like people who are a part of it really enjoy and those who aren't don't seem to care about it.

OK but Repetitive – dining hall food is good with plenty of ice cream! plenty of space to eat. nice fast food places and good campus stores to get a snack.

NCSU has some of the best science programs around the triangle. I would definintely reccommend this school to anyone wanting to study a science

Guys & Girls:
Dress Code – There area a lot of different styles at NCSU, the ones that stick out the most are the college of management students who can always be seen in their polo shirts, khakis, and dress shoes.

Freedom Pass – The freedom pass is a wonderful invention. Its unlimited access to the dining halls, you can swipe your card every thirty minutes. So you can eat, just hang out with friends, whatever. Also with the freedom pass you can use the equivalency. which means you get 4.75 for breakfast and 5.85 for lunch and dinner to spend at any of the on campus restraunts.

High Quality Professors and Academic Network – If you're here for science or engineering, you're getting an exceptional education. The humanities departments are small but of extraordinarily high quality. Frankly the university doesn't deserve them, but they really enrich an otherwise small community. That smallness is great if you like interaction with your professors. It can be difficult to get that level of interaction in the sciences and engineering schools though. Plus, the proximity of the Research Triangle Park, Duke University and the University of Chapel Hill make the quality of additional curricular activities very rewarding academically and professionally.

Just Be Smart About Your Partying – If you keep your grades up and don't make much trouble in the dorms, you're good to go. You'll get more problems from city police than anyone else (e.g. parking violations, noise violations, underage drinking citations). Just don't let the parties get out of control, turn down the noise later in the night, and try to be careful where you park (carpool!). The school does keep an eye on your grades, though, and is fast to let you know when academic performance is unacceptable.

Utilitarian but Solid, Clean and Green – The facilities on Central and North campus are a little old and aesthetically outdated, but they are solid, utilitarian structures. The science and engineering buildings are incredibly nice and up to date, though. The gym is an exceptionally large facility, and the library is enormous with lots of room and computers for studying. The Learning Commons is a great place to study in groups or just hang out, and it's always fun to watch the video games on the big screen TVs. Campus is pretty and they take good care of it in terms of cleanliness and beauty. Access to rich, green parks and courtyards in the area is abundant. The dorms tend to be older-looking, but the campus activities and sense of community make up for it.
College Junior 2011-12-06T19:28:36Z
No Tolerance Policy – There is a no tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol and thus are very seriously punished. Main thing is to keep it at a minimum and try not to do it on campus if you can avoid it.

Friendly and Open – The dorms at NC State are pretty good. Main thing is applying early and getting into dorms closer to central campus. Overall housing is very open and fun.

College Campus With the City Feel – There is much to do around NC State. On one side of the campus you have Hillsborough Street which contains various restaurants and other businesses geared for college students. Since it is near the center of Downtown Raleigh there is always something to do, even on campus.

Raleigh Is a Very Well Rounded City – raleigh is an incredible town to be in, lots to do and many great people. Downtown is very nice and very clean.

its lovely looking from the outside – My couple of semesters there was enjoyable, based on the college and campus itself. Its not very bussling and crowded and you can run into the same people most days. On the buses they are quiet and awkward sometimes, so just take your time and look around and relax and you will feel right at home and you wont want to rush back to sit in your lonely room.

Guys & Girls:
Know people early, groups are abound – It is very tough for the average guy or girl that doesnt already know other students attending especially if transferring. Work on this at the Tech or CC then either live on campus or at university friendly apartments. I lived on my own, took the bus, and worked at a restaurant and my friends were limited. Its not a openly friendly environment at all. The girls were absorbed and picky, especially if they havent ever made eye contact with them beforehand. Dont build a 'creepy' reputation, even though that is a vague and different term than it should be. The North Face wearing girls know what they are doing and looking extra pretty and standing out, but they wont give you the time of day if you arent their 'style' and its a shame.

Skip Downtown – If you arent ready to pay for gas, parking, and then high end liquors and walking then just hang around campus areas. Try to find a dorm or apartment party at the least, then if going down the street to say Sammy's then finding a chill place to meet new people or hang with friends isnt far actually. Do have many 'go-to' friends if you are ina bind and dont have a secure ride, as the taxi system is very sketchy.

You had better be ready for daily homework and weekly quizzes, and then memorization of basic practical knowledge is a must. Try to use it in other classes you take like Economics and Calculus. This is not a major you just enter and then pass through barely, you will fail if you dont put in the effort and apply memory and everything you are writing down.

Being a History Major – Being a history major is strenuous, but rewarding. Just in the required seminar you come out of it fully aware of what it means to be a historian.

There are always buses that go to and from athletic events, but because our student body is so large the wait can sometimes be extremely long, especially after football games. It is probably quicker to walk the 3 miles back to campus than it is to wait for a bus. Busing is always "free" as it is included in tuition.

Health & Safety:
Health and Safety – I feel fairly safe, but in the past two months here there have been about six people who have fallen victim to armed robberies. These usually happen to girls. They tell us to walk with friends, but the other day I woke up to an email saying there was an armed robbery on campus with two girls being the victims.

Would Like to in the Future – At my previous school at California State University Monterey Bay, I had the opportunity of being a Service Learning Student Leader and benefited greatly from the rich experience. The position helped shaped me to be more punctual and organized and also connected me with the campus as well as the community. I learned how to lead a facilitation, manage community service opportunities as well as hours, network with community partners, and help students develop a deeper meaning of social justice and compassion towards others. I hope to connect with an internship similar to this in North Carolina within the next semester.

I'd Do It Again – I really like NC State because it has a diverse set of students and everyone is really nice. People are always willing to go out of there way and help out and it is easy to make friends. The campus also does a good job on providing activities for all students to enjoy.
College Senior 2011-11-18T21:02:34Z
Although many students on campus are mostly conservative, I feel that everyone is generally open-minded and polite. I definitely thank Southern hospitality and mannerisms for creating the welcoming atmosphere.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
