Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Academics are held to a high standard at NC State, due to the top-ranked colleges within the University in combination with the dedicated professors. The College of Textiles is one of the best textile schools in the world. People from around the nation are also likely to recognize a degree from NCSU’s College of Engineering and the College of Art and Design. Professors usually make themselves available during office hours, and they tend go above and beyond to make themselves accessible to students and their questions. Students warn incoming freshmen, though, that not all professors will be equally helpful. NC State provides free tutorial services in many subjects; these prove helpful when professors are a little tough to work with. The Undergraduate Tutorial Center often provides one-on-one help (depending on how busy it is) and practice exams. Good luck finding a seat the day before a Physics 205 exam!

While NCSU has very strong academics in most fields, some are still developing. The business school, while in high demand at State, is still trying to make a name for itself; this is true of the English department, as well. However, students have said they have found their most inspirational teachers in the English department. Like any school, all fields have their pros and cons. NC State holds its own with diverse areas of study and accessible professors, all of which provide an enriched learning environment for any student.

Need More Class Sections

In general the buildings and animal educational units could use some help and improvement. There is little budgeting for Animal Science, it all goes to engineering. Classes are being cut or have fewer sections even though it's one of the most popular majors. It's a lot harder than it sounds, you have to take more chemistry classes than a chem major and the general ed class options are horrible.

Registration is usually never a problem. Workload can definitely be a lot, it is not uncommon for a majority of students to be studying most of the week.
