Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

NC State’s dorms are about average; though this depends on students’ standards. Owen and Tucker residence halls are located on Central Campus and are reserved for new incoming students. Bagwell and Berry, located on East Campus, are reserved for the Honors Village program. Sullivan, located on West Campus, is for the Scholars Village program. The housing Web site (www.ncsu.edu/housing) is helpful and easy to navigate. Some will prefer suite-style rooms to hallway-style rooms where everyone on the hall shares a large bathroom. There are many dorms without air conditioning, as well, and this is something to seriously consider when picking your top choices. Some dorms are more convenient to have if located on Central Campus, but what is an extra five minutes of walking if you prefer to have a cool room to walk into in order to escape the Triangle Area heat? Each dorm is in good shape, for the most part; it is just important to look up the location in relation to your classes, the air conditioning and smoking status, and the alcohol policy to best fit your preferences. Also, some dorms have computer labs in the lobby, like Sullivan. Having a computer lab in your hall or a nearby dorm may be convenient if you don’t have a computer to bring. Wood Hall may be one dorm to avoid, however, since it is one of the farthest dorms from most buildings, and it has something of a roach problem.

NC State Dorms

Living in dorms has both pros and cons. I lived in Tucker Hall my freshman year at NC State. The pros are that youre around a lot of people all of the time. Its fun to be social and go to events with the people who live in your dorm. You get to meet new people that way. Thats how I met my best friends =] Some of the cons are the rules. Some dorms wont let you have guests of the opposite sex. And the Resident Advisors can sometimes be harsh. But other than that dorm life was the best.

Wolf Village

The Wolf Village apartments on campus are very nice. They are relatively new so everything in them is working and up to date. If you can, try and get a corner unit because these are the biggest ones. The living rooms are about twice as big as the normal ones.

Not to Shabby

I like that they have Villages on campus to live in so that you feel more involved and can get to know people easier.
