Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

With more than 25,000 students, there is bound to be someone with the ideal personality for you. NC State, unlike UNC-Chapel Hill, is known for having more guys than ladies. This is stereotypically expected, since NCSU is recognized as an engineering school, which tends to attract more males than females. However, with programs like Women in Science and Engineering (WISE), the female population is on the rise, and the boy-to-girl ratio is evening out.

NCSU also has a large agriculture program bringing in the good ol’ Southern boys. The boys at State vary from the preppy, boat shoe, popped-collar-wearing frat boys to the tractor-loving rednecks. It is the same with the ladies—you will find pearl accessorized, Vera Bradley-wearing sorority girls, as well as workout fanatics and women scientists. The girls, as a whole, seem to outshine the guys in looks, playing in a league above them, but with Raleigh being a top city for singles, the dating scene is hot for anyone. Boys, don’t be afraid to venture out and test the waters at Meredith and Peace College.

Know people early, groups are abound

It is very tough for the average guy or girl that doesnt already know other students attending especially if transferring. Work on this at the Tech or CC then either live on campus or at university friendly apartments. I lived on my own, took the bus, and worked at a restaurant and my friends were limited. Its not a openly friendly environment at all. The girls were absorbed and picky, especially if they havent ever made eye contact with them beforehand. Dont build a 'creepy' reputation, even though that is a vague and different term than it should be. The North Face wearing girls know what they are doing and looking extra pretty and standing out, but they wont give you the time of day if you arent their 'style' and its a shame.

Nightlife

If you are coming out of state, be prepared for a lot of in state kids. There is no diversity and "Northerners" are viewed as outcasts. If you're looking for good nightlife, this is NOT the school you want to go to. If you don't know that many people here, odds are you won't like it here. I'm transferring mid-year; and other Northerners don't like it here as well.

Facts

Hookups or Relationships?

Every weekend there are plenty of hookups to find at the parties and bars around the area. However, there is always the potential of meeting someone that is interesting enough to begin a relationship with.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Most students seem to find their new main squeeze out at parties, through mutual friends, or at bars. Drinking games are also a good way to meet people. Sometimes, the kid next you may just catch your eye—just beware of the dreaded “beer goggles.” Also, becoming a member of a fraternity or sorority is a sure way to meet the opposite sex, since so many organizations have mixers together. Oftentimes, the mixers are free for the ladies, drinks are available, and a chartered bus takes you all to and from the location. The mixers are also sometimes held at shag clubs like Reds Beach Music, which helps relieve the tension by allowing you to just dance the night the away.

Dress Code

Most students around campus could be described as what parents might call "clean cut." Many guys and girls wear simple polo shirts and jeans or skirts. There are, however, a number of students who will rock the overalls, while others will just roll out of bed in pajamas or come to class in gym clothes all ready to hit the gym and work off some school-induced stress. Go to class in whatever is comfortable. If you hate what you're wearing one day, or it is laundry day for you, chances are, it's laundry day for a thousand other students on campus, as well.
