Experience Opportunities Are Plenty

There are tons of ways to get experience for your major including heaps of co-op opportunities. There are always top flight companies like Wells Fargo and Wachovia that give presentations and opportunities for interviews to get internships and co-ops.

High Quality Professors and Academic Network

If you're here for science or engineering, you're getting an exceptional education. The humanities departments are small but of extraordinarily high quality. Frankly the university doesn't deserve them, but they really enrich an otherwise small community. That smallness is great if you like interaction with your professors. It can be difficult to get that level of interaction in the sciences and engineering schools though. Plus, the proximity of the Research Triangle Park, Duke University and the University of Chapel Hill make the quality of additional curricular activities very rewarding academically and professionally.

Facts

Traditions
  • Hillsborough Hike: Graduating seniors start drinking at Player’s Retreat and try to hike their way up Hillsborough Street, going from bar to bar.
  • Homecoming: Each year there is a homecoming football game with a parade down Hillsborough Street. This is a time where students, alumni, and family get together for the tailgating, music, and the game.
  • Krispy Kreme Challenge: Conceived in 2004 by sophomore Chris McCoy, the Krispy Kreme Challenge involves a two-mile run from the Memorial Bell Tower to the Raleigh Krispy Kreme Bakery down the hill. Once there, the participants must each consume a dozen hot glazed doughnuts and race back up to the Bell Tower to finish. All proceeds go to support the North Carolina Children’s Hospital, too—as if anyone needed more incentive to fill up on Krispy Kremes!
Urban Legends Harrelson Hall was supposedly originally designed as an architecture student’s senior project. The student received a failing grade on the project and was told that the design was inviable. Many years later, the University was taking bids on a new building, and the student—now a successful architect—proposed his original design, which became Harrelson Hall.
