Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

It’s important for a student to find a college atmosphere fitting his or her needs. Hillsborough Street in Raleigh offers a significant part of that atmosphere. It’s similar to Chapel Hill’s Franklin Street. While not as active as Franklin Street, it serves students well with affordable restaurants, bars, and a bowling alley, all intertwined with shops. At the end of every semester, it is tradition for soon-to-be NCSU graduates to perform the Hillsborough Hike—students start at Players Retreat and finish at whatever bar they can hike or crawl to. Glenwood Avenue, only a five-minute drive from NCSU, attracts many students with popular coffee nooks like Helios, as well as bars, restaurants, and clubs like Hi 5. With Fraternity Court and Hillsborough Street in walking distance, there is a constant flow of students making their way up and down Dan Allen on weekends and the ever-so-popular weekly “Thirsty Thursday.” Raleigh is very upbeat, and after being voted one of the coolest places to live, more and more single young people are moving here and taking advantage of the dating scene. Not only is NCSU surrounded by college students, with Meredith and Peace right down the road, but there are always plays going on at local theaters and plenty of parks to go running in or take a romantic walk around. The annual State Fair brings in people from across the state, and the NC State football games truck in alumni from all over. It is never a question of what is going on—it’s always hardest deciding what to do.

Many Choices to Choose from

Raleigh is a gigantic metropolitan area and has many hot spots. NC State is near several other colleges including Shaw and NCCU. It about a 30 minute drive to UNC-CH, which is our biggest rival. The campus of NC State is very diverse, if you want to enjoy yourself, seek out numerous events going on throughout campus.

College Campus With the City Feel

There is much to do around NC State. On one side of the campus you have Hillsborough Street which contains various restaurants and other businesses geared for college students. Since it is near the center of Downtown Raleigh there is always something to do, even on campus.
