College Prowler Take

There are plenty of places to eat off-campus around NC State. Whether you’re in the mood for subs, hot dogs, Chinese, pizza, or wings—you can have it all. Most of the restaurants around campus stay open later than the typical restaurant and are usually busy with students throughout the day, seven days a week. In the midst of all the fast food dining there are even places for you to take a date out to a nice romantic dinner right in walking distance of campus. Hillsborough Street was voted one of the Triangle’s most romantic date destinations.

The most common food places around campus are also very wallet friendly. It is easy to grab a quick bite to eat and only spend five dollars. Students are looking for something quick and cheap to grab in between classes. It is always wise to have a few bucks on your AllCampus card, in case you don’t have time to run out to Hillsborough Street for that pizza or cup of coffee. This way, you can swipe your card at the Hill of Beans in the library or at a snack machine in the building you have class in. Sometimes, it is hard to find time to stop and eat, but as time goes on, you’ll learn which places are quickest and how best to budget your money.

The good restaurants are probably a 10- to 15-minute drive from campus. Cameron Village is a decent place to go that is close. Cookout is not too far, which is great because I am a huge fan. But if you decide to go at about 2 a.m. on a Friday or Saturday night, expect to wait in a huge line.

At NCSU, we are really very lucky because Hillsborough Street is within walking distance and has a variety of foods from barbecue to Mexican, Chinese, Mediterranean, and steakhouses---great restaurants and great food and totally easy to get to. El Rodeo is great yet somewhat pricey Mexican food. They always have won awards for their margaritas. I would highly recommend Jasmine's Mediterranean Cuisine. It is not expensive, really tasty, and family owned so very friendly.

There are a number of fast food places along Western and Hillsborough Street. Also, if you have a car, it is easy to get down to Cameron Village or Glenwood Avenue, which are both five- to ten-minute drives from campus. The scene around that part of town is a great place to take your dates.
