Very Diverse and Accepting

Every campus has that group of students who hates everyone and isn't afraid to show that, but for the most part here at State everyone is very friendly and accepting to all genders and races.

Not Too Sure

Alcohol is a problem off campus but on campus, rules are enforced. I try not to involve myself personally in crowds that use alcohol or drugs illegaly- so it's hard to provide a full assessment

Dining Halls

Lots of variety. Healthy options. Different food everyday for lunch and dinner. The food is pretty good.

Guys & Girls at NCSU

I don't think it's a very important topic on our campus, but the guys & girls on our campus are average compared to other universities.

Greek LIFE!!

Greek life can be seen all around campus. Our greek community is apart of almost every aspect of life on campus. It is a status symbol to be a part of the greek community. On the weekends most people can be found going to frat parties and the sorority girls have fun going our too.

Wolfpack in Da House

Our football team and season is amazing. The tailgating and school spirit at the games is unrivaled in the ACC. We also have possibly the top athletic facilities in the ACC and the atmosphere they provide is incredible. Our basketball team leaves a little to be desired but with a new coach coming in next year hopefully things will turn around and our team will live up to the monumental gym they play in. Our intramural and club sports offer a wide variety of sports to everyone to enjoy and a large portion of our student body participates in them.

The Free Expression Tunnel

Our Campus is split by train tracks so we have tunnels that connect the two sides. One tunnel is called the free expression tunnel that students can paint in and express themselves. It is also a great way for clubs to advertise for themselves.

NCSU Dining Facilities

The dining facilities at NCSU are really great! I am very impressed with the work that they have done to provide different options to students. I am especially impressed with the facilities that provide for the students with dietary needs that may be different.

Labs Get Crowded During Exam Season

We have copious amounts of computers; both PC's and macs. They are easy to use and there's always one available unless it's exam time.

Safety at NC State

I feel completely safe at state. We've got campus police that are always a phone call away from us in case we feel threatened. I haven't had any problems!

Location

Parking is alright once you can get a good permit as a sophomore, but as a freshman - you have to take a bus to get to your car.

Spacious and Affordable

I live in a four bedroom townhome and I only have to pay 300 a month which is well in range of my budget

Diverse Learning Environment

For high school, I went to a small private school with a homogenous population of middle class white students. When I came to NC State, I was exposed to a very diverse population which very much represents the real world. The world is consisted of hundreds of different cultures, races, and religions. Experiencing this type of environment enriched my awareness of the beauty of having a diverse population of students who all want to obtain a higher education and a better life.

Strictness

Of course, there's strict policies on underage drinking and drug use, but that's not just a campus thing. I've never really heard anything around campus of the police getting serious due to student. Maybe a frat party getting shut down, but most students are pretty discrete with these dealings. There's only one serious incident with a student where police had to actually taser him because he was high and destroying campus property.

Off Campus Dining Near NCSU

There are tons of restaurants down Hillsborough Street, on the north side of NCSU. There is a large variety of places including Chinese and Mediterranean. Many places give out student discounts or handout coupons to campus residents. Some places are cheaper than what you would expect with excellent food and service. Others are around their normal price range such as Subway and Dunkin Donuts.

Winter Weather

Our school is only delayed &/or closes early for bad winter weather. Our school rarely closes for bad winter weather.

Sullivan Hall

I chose Sullivan Hall because I've heard of the Scholars Program. If you live in the Scholars Village, located on floors 2 - 4 of Sullivan, then you get to live with other Scholars that have had similar experiences that you have. Also, no drugs or alcohol. I didn't really care about the alcohol, but I didn't want to risk getting a roommate that used spit tobacco. There is also the Honors Village on the other side of campus but their benefits are to register for classes early. Scholars get to go on events and see operas, plays, that sort of stuff. Plus, If you live in Sullivan, you are near the fountain Dining hall so that is nice. Also, since I live on the 2nd floor, I don't use the elevator, but I hear it occasionally doesn't work. The rooms aren't very large but I seem to forgot that because once you get along with your suitemates, you'll forgot about the size. To get along, something crucial is to LEAVE YOUR SUITE DOOR OPEN. Conversations start and you'll become family. If you don't, it will always stay quiet so sometimes, you might have to start the conversations. Also, a secret to getting a seat for dinner in fountain is to get there before 6:00pm. After 6:00pm is when the rush comes in. Any questions, contact me.

Top Notch Engineering School

Not that there are many school with nuclear engineering programs, but I would not have picked anywhere else to do my doctorate than NCSU's Nuke Department. All of the engineering school's here are great. I hear some of the undergrad classes are very large though.

Greek Life

Greek Housing on campus is nice, but a lot of people attach a stigma to those they know in Greek life that might not always be representative of that individual's true character (however in some cases it is).

Greeks are Missing

The Greek life on campus is so low profile one would think it was gone. I personally only know one person who was in a sorority but she transferred schools after a year. The Greeks keep to themselves and hangout with themselves. You have to know a Greek to even get into one of their fundraising events. Greek Court and Greek Village are essentially closed areas for non-Greeks, not that anyone would notice at all.

Drinking Over Weed

The drug scene at NC State is there, but it depends on who you hang out with. Most widely used drug is marijuana and people usually drink more often.

Campus Dining at NCSU

We have three dining halls offered around campus so students don't have to walk too far to eat. We also several places like the Atrium and Talley student center where students can get things like Chick-fil-a, Taco Bell, Lil Dinos, Toppers and etc. if they do not want to eat at the dining hall. The campus is located between two major streets: Hillsborough and Western Blvd, both which offer a variety of options for students that are looking to eat off campus. Students can also get snacks using their All Campus card or Board Bucks at the convenience stores located throughout the campus. Overall the prices are not too bad either, with the exception of the c-stores which tend to over charge on things.

Living on Campus

Though the cost of living is more expensive than living off campus, a students has a better distance from classes, and is able to walk to resources on campus. The atmosphere at NC State is wonderful and friendly. The central campus dorms at the best because they are closer to classes. I would stay away from the dorms that are on east or west campus just because it will take longer to walk to your classes.

VERY SAFE

On this campus I feel I will be very safe. I love the emergency telephones on the light poles.
