Being prepared to deal with heat and humidity is key when attending NCSU. The area does, every now and then, suffer through an ice storm or receive a few inches of snow, creating panic among campus officials and giving students the day off to sled, but don't count on that too often. Mid-August will begin the school year with temperatures averaging around 80 degrees. The humidity is what makes it feel unbearable when walking across campus, though. Fall in North Carolina seems to be the favorite among most students, with temperatures ranging from about 55 degrees to the upper 60s. At these times, there are more people walking outside and eating lunch or taking naps in the courtyards than riding the air-conditioned Wolfline. It is a good idea to bring a few jackets with a couple pairs of jeans and closed-toe shoes. If you have access to home after the first couple months of school, this will enable you to trade out your clothes for a warmer wardrobe that you left in your home closet during fall break or Thanksgiving. Many students return home for Easter break, making it an opportune time to substitute your winter clothes for your summer clothes and to prepare yourself for the North Carolina heat once more.
