I chose Northeastern because the university has managed to cram an amazing amount of intellectual energy in its cozy 75 acre campus. Brilliant professors and amazing guest speakers stimulate students. Very available advisers are able to help students find out what degree they want and how to get there.

Most smoke weed. Many do coke. Noone cares if you partake or not but you will be around it. I don't know anyone who's gotten in trouble.

Apartment Housing – Northeastern student begin living in apartment-style housing either right from freshman year, or at the latest during sophomore year. It's great to be able to have a kitchen, living room, etc so soon into your college career, while maintaining the safety of living in a "dorm" with security

Tons of international kids. Lots of people to meet.

Spread Thin – There are a TON of majors to choose from at Northeastern, but the sad truth is that some majors get much more attention than others. Business, Engineering and Pharmacy are all extremely intense programs with tons of advisors and each student gets a lot of special attention. My major, Environmental Science, and others like Sociology definitely don't get as much attention.

Very Diverse – Northeastern is really diverse! We have students from all over the world and country studying here. I'd say that there isn't a noticeable majority group at my school. I love it!

Health & Safety:
Pretty Safe – My school is located in a tough area. The campus itself is pretty safe and the security is great, but there is definitely the occasional crime on the off-campus areas surrounding my school.

Public Transport Is Awesome – The MBTA is really great. The T is excellent. I mean it's a little crowded sometimes but still good. However if you're out late, say after 1 they stop running. So either you cater to that time frame or take a cab\walk\ sleep over by a friend.

Profs Are Open to Helping Your With Research – I'm in College of Science and I want experience in a research lab. Recently I got into one so I'm excited and grateful for the opportunity to gain 1st hand experience and actually carry out lab work.

Most people are caucasian, I would say roughly 60% are. There are very little asians, southeast asians, and african americans.

The library has very old windows os computers which is not always the best. For printing, the computers given are windows computers and they are very slow and you are only given 10 minutes to print your information out.

Health & Safety:
Security & Safety – Although Northeastern has a campus, it is still open to the public and it is still in a big city. Being open to the public means that college students roaming around at night are not always going to be safe from the outsiders. Anyone is allowed into the college grounds. However, dorms are very secure in that you must show your id card and be able to swipe in. Also there is always Northeastern Police surveilling the campus.

As with most other cities on the Eastern seaboard, the nearby ocean does bring in a fair amount of wind, which is really welcome in the summertime, and not so much in the winter. Prepare for temperatures in the 80s when you move in, and by the third week of classes you'll wake up to high 40s/low 50s, with highs in the 60s. By November-forget it. You'll be dreaming of Miami for the next few months after that. But overall, it's exactly what you'd expect, so nothing really surprises you.

Good but Repetitive – There are only three main dining halls, one of which is really crowded and closes kinda early. When you first move in as a freshman, the food seems really good, even if they can't really season it well due to allergies and whatnot. But then you realize that the menu is kinda repetitive, etc etc. And the quality tends to go down as the school year rolls on, but most upperclassmen have kitchens anyway so you're only forced to endure it for one year.

Very slow connection if using library computers, and very little number of printers. There is always a line for printing.

Why Do Some Students Use Drugs – I want to start by saying that peer pressure is not the case. No one is going to force you into drinking or using drugs. Students here come to college and want to embrace all the freedom they can, so they go looking for ways to get in trouble. Most of them get caught, and their ideology of college being a free place is crushed miserably, yet people still through parties, smoke weed, and do other stuff.
at Northeastern most students do not drink and/or use drugs, which, to be honest, is amazing, being that we are located in Boston.
Overall, college students want to prove that they are mature free adults and show that by drinking and other not so bright things.

Athletic Facilities – if your day starts with going to the gym - then Northeastern was meant for you!
We have two gyms on-campus that are free for all students. one of them has a track, elipticals, virtual bicycles, stair master, a rock-climbing machine,a weight-lifting room, 3 basketball/soccer courts, and many other great ways to start your morning with a great exercise.
If, however, you do not enjoy the variety listed above - you have the option of attending our second gym, where we have a swimming pool, soccer field, basketball court, etc.
Our facilities are more than satisfactory, and I encourage you to try them out!

Our Professors – Our Professors come from all over the world. Some professors come from Russia, others from Nigeria, others from France, others are from India and much more.
These professors are world travelers and come to class wishing to pass their knowledge on to the next generation of students, hoping that one day - we will return the favor and teach students ourselves.
Our professors are extremely knowledgeable and just awesome as people!
You will have a lot of fun, if you study well.

The "T" is the most convenient way to get from place to place. There are 2 lines that run through Northeastern's campus, and between those two, you can get anywhere you need to. You don't need public transportation to get across campus, it is only about a 5 minute walk, but it will take you wherever you need to go in the city.

Food Food Food – Since Northeastern is in Boston, there are tons of food options. There are classy upscale restaurants with foods you can't even pronounce, and pizza places where you can get a pie for $9. There are places to eat everywhere in between, and something for every lifestyle and culture.

Northeastern has just renovated many of its facilities. We have a 4 floor gym, which was the first of its kind. There are also two other gyms for students to use. Classroom spaces are being remodeled to offer more comfortable seating and increased technology options. The library has 4 floors and offers 2 floors where it is silent at all times. The student center has a great food court and convenience store, and is a perfect place to relax or study with friends.

The school's program is the most attractive reason to choose NU. Co-op lands you a job when you graduate -- it's as simple as that. The faculty here really do want you to succeed and will do anything and everything to make that happen. All you have to do is ask. As for the campus, well, it's beautiful. Being in the city with a nice green campus is truly the best of both worlds. I would choose Northeastern a thousand times over!
College Senior 2011-09-13T01:32:35Z
The campus is beautiful and melds perfectly into the Boston backdrop. It's the best of both worlds -- a campus dropped into the middle of Boston. What more could you ask for? There is plenty of green space for playing frisbee or laying out in the sun during warm days. The gym -- call the Marino Center -- is also state of the art. All facilities are very nice and new.

Psychology Major – The encouragement and help that a student receives at Northeastern when trying to find a job, choose a career, or simply develop good skills for a job are all phenomenal. The school really wants to help us do well in life and succeed in all aspects. I would definitely recommend NU to anyone who really wants a job when they finish college, not just a Bachelor's in whatever they decided was an easy major. Every teacher I had has offered to have students come anytime during office hours or make an appointment even if they only want to talk about what they want to pursue as a career. You can make a lot of connections here.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
