What little of a drug scene there is on campus really isn’t hard to avoid. In the 2008 election, voters in Massachusetts decided to decriminalize possession of marijuana. If a person is caught with one ounce or less of marijuana, they will be charged a $100 fine, and will not be reported to Massachusetts’ criminal history board. Other, harder drugs are around, but they aren’t out in the open, and students certainly don’t feel pressured to be involved if they don’t want to. Make sure your roommate is aware of your stance on drugs. Many problems develop between roommates when it comes to disagreements over that sort of thing, particularly because the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution is notoriously hard on students caught with drugs. If you get caught, chances are that your roommate will too, and vice versa. Students Speak Out

You definitely don't need to do...
You definitely don't need to do drugs if you don't want to. Probably the most popular is pot, but it doesn't impede on any part of campus life.

The only drugs I've ever heard of...
The only drugs I've ever heard of on campus are pot and cocaine. The rich kids who can afford cocaine usually only do it when partying and don't talk about it often, so people don't really hear about it. Pot is much more popular. All of my friends smoke pot, and I really don't know any Northeastern student who doesn't enjoy smoking a blunt while walking around in the Fens.

Hardcore drugs aren't really big on campus. Drinking and pot are more the norm.
