College Prowler Take
NU’s facilities get better every year. The University recently added classrooms and dorms, as well as a cafeteria complete with plasma screen TVs. If you want to get some exercise, the Cabot Center is available for students to swim and for teams to meet for practice, and the Marino Center is open almost all day and night. The student center was recently renovated, making it a prime location for students to meet for a study group, organization meeting, or just to get something to eat in the food court. The ballroom hosts concerts, lectures, and Greek events, and Blackman Auditorium has larger events, such as top comedians and theater productions. Northeastern also has something very unique—tunnels. Whether it’s cold, snowy, raining, or you just feel like walking through them, most University buildings are attached by underground tunnels that are color-coded by location. afterHOURS is a fun place to hang out and catch student performers or grab a coffee at Starbucks. Everything is so close by, it’s only a matter of where to meet and what to do first!

The gym at Northeastern is very up to date and has everything from treadmills to weights to a rock-climbing machine. The student center is packed with fast food restaurants, including Taco Bell and Starbucks. The library has four floors—the top two floors being quiet floors if you really need to get your work done. The second floor is a also good place to get some work done and chat with friends.

At NU we have a lot of beautiful, state-of-the-art facilities. NU has the biggest collegiate library in Boston, as well as one of the largest computer lab networks in the country. I've only been to the gym twice, but from what I can tell it's pretty modern, and it's certainly beautiful.

Just check out the pictures of our amazing campus. Everything is new and sparkling. The main gym has three floors with basketball courts, machines, weights, and an elevated running track. The gym across the street has an indoor soccer field and a pool. The student center is beautiful as well. Not only does it have a ton of great restaurants (that accept our Husky Card), but it also has computers, TVs, and a lounge. |

There’s a late-night gym, a 24-hour Cybercafe, and plenty of food around campus—including Brick Oven Pizza and Stir Fry. I’d say it’s a pretty good deal. |

Our facilities that serve everyone are great, although some of the more specialized facilities (practice rooms, labs) are not up to par. |
FactsWhat To Do on Campus
The Marino Center opens at 5 a.m. and closes at 1 a.m., so you can work out nearly anytime you want. The first floor of Snell Library is open 24 hours a day, which includes the infoCommons computer lab, so any late-night studying you need to do can take place there. afterHOURS hosts events throughout the year, from musicians (recently including Girl Talk and Boys Like Girls) to date auctions to open mic nights. Student groups host all sorts of different events during the week and on weekends, and you don’t need to be a member to attend many of them. The NU Downhillers Ski and Snowboard club takes ski trips on the weekend during the winter season, and the price for lift tickets and rentals is discounted since you pay student group prices. Guest lecturers and authors are brought in during activities period, which are Wednesday from 11:45 am to 1:25 pm and Thursday from 2:50 pm to 4:30 pm. There are two theatres—The Studio Theatre and Blackman Auditorium—that feature student performances and guest speakers such as Stephen Colbert and Bob Saget. Gallery 360, which connects Ell Hall and the Curry Student Center, features artwork by NU students, staff, faculty, and local artists.
Favorite Things To Do
Curry Student Center is really the hub of student life on campus. On the ground floor are various food vendors, including Wendy’s, D’Angelo’s Subs, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and more. There are tables to meet friends for lunch or grab a bite while working on a group project. Also on the ground floor is afterHOURS, which hosts different artists and events each week and is the home of the only Starbucks on campus. When the weather is nice, a great place to hang out with friends is Centennial Circle. You can grab a spot on the grass, bring some food (Wollaston’s market is a few steps away), and study for finals in April when it’s finally warm enough to go out with no coat on. When it’s snowing, grab your gloves and build a snowman or have a snowball fight in Centennial Circle or Krentzman Quad! The ground floor of the Marino Center features many tables to sit at with friends and is surrounded by Au Bon Pain, Boloco Burritos, and a second Wollaston’s Market. There are also annual events, such as Springfest, Sex Week, and Homecoming Week, which draw huge crowds (and you can bring home plenty of free giveaways!)
Bar on Campus
- None, but Conor Larkin’s is on Huntington right on the edge of campus.
Coffeehouse on Campus
- Starbucks in afterHOURS, 3 Dunkin' Donuts locations (Shillman Hall, Hayden Hall, Huntington Avenue), Au Bon Pain (Marino Recreation Center), CyberCafe (Snell Library)
