Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Oh, the joys of being young and in college. NU is full of attractive people, and most of them are just waiting to hook up. The problem is the communication—students seem to need some sort of dating guide because both girls and guys don’t know how to treat each other properly. For every good relationship, there seems to be about 10 bad ones.

NU is a sexually open campus—the school has events on sex (Sex Week), and students are always talking about who hooked up, who sleeps around, and who’s still a virgin. Even if you come to school a virgin freshman year, chances are you won’t stay one for long. Nonetheless, there are still a few students who seem primarily interested in having a relationship but haven’t found the right girl or guy.

What a Variety

Since the school is fairly big, and in Boston, a total college town, both on and off campus there are tons of college students everywhere. No matter what your type is, you'll be able to find someone in Boston. And with so many schools so close to each other, it's not a big problem to date someone who goes somewhere else. If you even want to, because there are plenty of attractive, normal people right here at Northeastern. My experience is that there's some of everything, people looking for hook ups and some who want relationships. People of all cultural identities and interests can be found here.

Height

There are all types of people here on campus. Compared to home, I've noticed there are so many tall people in Boston! Although the guys in my group of friends all happen to be average height or short.

Facts

Social Scene

The ratio of guys to girls at Northeastern is about even, and no matter what you’re looking for, it’s likely that you’ll be able to find your match. Many students also come to visit Northeastern from nearby schools, such as Boston University, Harvard, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, so it’s very easy to meet somebody at a party, club meeting, or even just through friends. There’s never a shortage of available students, and Northeastern students are big on going out for dates—especially since Boston has so much to offer!

Hookups or Relationships?

More and more, NU is becoming a relationship school. Maybe it's because of the cold weather and the desire to cuddle up to someone. In any case, NU students are very attractive, and they are always meeting new prospects, even from neighboring schools. If you're looking for a relationship, it can seem like a hopeless cause because all anyone wants to do is hook up (in both a regular and meaningless context). There are few one-night stands, though, and many NU students come to college with little to no sexual experience.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

There are tons of places to meet guys and girls at NU. Besides meeting people in residence halls, NU students like to go out on the town and party it up. You can go to a bar or club nearby on Boylston or Newbury Street, or head to Tiger Lily in a big group (the “Scorpion Bowls” are strong, and it’s easy to meet someone there for a nightcap). Another place to meet a prospect is at a party, although, chances are, it won’t be more than a one-night thing. Our House is a bar right off campus, and you’ll usually find a gaggle of girls and guys watching the game and eating $1 burgers. It’s pretty easy to chat someone up there during a commercial. Of course, there is always the possibility that you could meet someone at the Marino Center gym or in the library, but you’d better make sure you look particularly sexy when you’re sweating or studying.

Dress Code

The basic style is casual, but some people get more dressed-up. Since the University is so close to major shopping areas in Boston, students find any excuse to shop and pretty much always want to look their best. Some students have to have the newest, most expensive items; other students could care less and show up to class in sweats. Nonetheless, it is not uncommon to find people looking good, even at the gym.
