Boston has nightlife down. With the exception of the 2 a.m. closing time, there is always a fun time to be had at a pub, bar, club, or lounge. Options range from seedy-but-fun dive bars to extremely posh and exclusive clubs, and the majority of Boston’s nightlife options are geared toward college students. A few clubs have begun enforcing unnecessary lines in order to get inside. One in particular, Umbria, is getting very good at this practice—it seems to be working, because more and more people are lining up. There are always VIP lists, but even those won’t help you get in a lot of the time. If someone hands you a promotional flyer, scan it, but chances are it won’t help you at all. You want to befriend the bouncers, promoters, and, if possible, the owners—that’s your best chance of getting in, unless you’re hot and have lots of money to spend.

My typical Thursday, Friday, and Saturday have about five parties going on each night. Connors and Pour House are great for 21+, but there are tons of apartment parties. Once you get used to partying in the city with its small apartments and being buzzed in, it's a good time.

Some people have parties in their dorms, but most of them occur off campus. The only place on campus that is somewhat conducive to parties is West Village, and you will probably see some there. Mission Hill, where most people end up living off campus, has most of the parties, but that's just because there are so many people there.

The parties and hot spots around campus and in Boston are always a good time. Try to stay away from huge parties near Columbus Avenue, unless you know who’s throwing them—the cops are always there before you can even reach the keg. Bars I’d recommend are Tiger Lily, located close to campus on the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Westland, Whiskey Park, and Daisy’s on Boylston Avenue. |

Some of the places I recommend if you’re over 21 are Connor Larkin’s—it’s very close, and it’s a sports bar—or the Fanueil Hall bars (Hong Kong). If money is no object, go to Fenway (Boston Beer Works, Avalon, Tequila Rain). |

At first, I didn’t believe how many nightlife options we Boston students had at our disposal. A student could go broke quickly, though, if he or she isn’t careful. |

Boston’s clubs and bars are insane and filled with college students from Thursdsay night through Saturday night (and often during the rest of the week as well). They are strict on IDs, so if you don’t have a good fake, you probably shouldn’t risk it, because bouncers have no qualms about taking it away.
Organization Parties
Resident Students Association throws an annual Snow Ball, which is a formal dance open to all students (as long as tickets are purchased ahead of time). Fraternities and sororities throw parties throughout the year, as well, and many student groups will have themed events around the holidays. Northeastern also features numerous multiple-day events during the year that feature parties and events, such as the casino during Sex Week and Halloween costume parties.
