Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

If there's one thing for students to be wary of at NAU, it's definitely the infamous "Minor in Consumption." If you"re 20 years old or younger, be very careful about drinking on campus. The vast majority of residence halls are considered "dry," or free from any kind of alcohol, regardless of a student's age. These halls all enforce a no-tolerance policy, and if a student is found to be underage, the NAUPD is sometimes contacted. Otherwise, punishments include mandatory alcohol awareness classes and being kicked off campus housing.

Off campus, the police seem to be a bit more laid-back. Parties are sometimes broken up, but more often than not, officers understand that students are having a good time and will issue a warning. The rule of thumb in all cases seems to be that if you are respectful and smart, people will leave you alone. Other than alcohol, there aren't really any major areas of enforcement. Students and campus police get along just fine, and most people feel very safe. However, Parking Services, the on-campus parking regulators, are tighter than a pair of pants on Rush Limbaugh. Strictness on the mountain campus boils down to a lot of alcohol and a lot of parking tickets, but everything else is pretty relaxed.

Strictness

The students at NAU are very calm and aware of there surroundings that students don't cause trouble for the police or strict laws to be enforced. If anything the students would get in trouble would be about being to loud, and if campus police are around they will just give you a reminder to quite things down, nothing to harsh. If you get caught smoking in the hall, the cops will be called and you will be kicked out of that hall. Most kids either know how the system works really well or are good about hiding anything they do that is wrong so they do not get in trouble. But over all i would say that the police around NAU are pretty laid back.

Punishment Is Severe

Flagstaff police have nothing better to do then pass out MICs to underaged students for having a beer. It is ridiculous and i fee like they should be more lenient and give off warnings to scare students.
