Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

When most students think of off-campus restaurants, foam forms at the sides of their mouths, and they scratch at the door, whimpering to be let out. Once they calm down, they will tell you that Flagstaff is home to some of the best places around when it comes to food. When you compare it to the experience of eating at the Doob or the Union, going off campus definitely makes sense. The food is very moderately priced, and a dinner for two can be had for just around $25. It’s easy to find a restaurant—no matter what kind of food you’re looking for. You want Italian? Bada-bing. You want Thai? You got it. You want food poisoning? Well, the Union might still be open.

Oregano’s and Macy’s definitely stand out as the places to be for students. Don’t miss NiMarco’s and its unbeatable pizza, as well as Hiro’s for being the affordable, delicious joint for sushi. Because Flagstaff is so dominated by the college scene, many of the restaurants in the area will also have special student menus or discounts. Most of the food action in the area will be just off campus or within walking distance downtown, so it’s very accessible. If there’s one complaint, it’s that very few places are open late for after-hours eating. It’s 4 a.m. and you’re hungry? Too bad. It’s either go to Denny’s or gnaw on your thumb.

There are a lot of local dining areas within walking distance of the university that range in various types of food, maning in the historical Heritage Square. Of course there are also the usual fast food areas and chain resturants. Overall, you won't have a problem finding what you like to eat.

I dont eat off campus often, but when I have the costs are respective to the amount of provided food. Chuba Hut, Quiznos, KFC,Chilis, and Applebees are great places to eat at.

$6 lunch special at Fratelli's piza. 2 slices or a slice and a salad. Both come w/ a drink. The slices are huge!

$7-9 lunch at Dara Thai.

Tacos Locos. Reasonably priced but not cheap. Delicious California Burrito.

Did You Know?

Tired of eating on campus but don’t really have the cash to go off? Wish you could use your on-campus meal plan at your favorite spot in the city? Well, now you can. Kind of. While your NAU meal plan must be used on campus, you and your parents can purchase the off-campus meal plan through www.ocmp.com. Using this company, you select a plan, swipe your card at one of the participating restaurants in the area, and enjoy food that’s not from the Union. Though it is not University-affiliated, it can be a great way to beat the humdrum taste of the everyday, on-campus dining life.
