Quick Stats

Best Ways to Get Around Town
  • Flagstaff Mountain Line—it's free for students!
  • A friend's trusty automobile
  • Pounding the pavement with your new kicks
  • A shiny bicycle—Flagstaff is full of hippies, and you will get a high five for not clogging up our air!
Best Ways to Get to the Airport Flagstaff Pulliam is just a short drive south on I-17, approximately four miles outside of the city limits. Most students either bum a ride or call a cab. A cab ride to the Flagstaff airport costs $10, and a shuttle ride to the Phoenix airport costs $30.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

North Campus, Central Campus, and South Campus are connected by Mountain Campus Transit (MCT). MCT has two different routes that provide a great, reliable way to get from place to place. When your class on North Campus gets out and you have 20 minutes to reach the next one on South, MCT is the way to go. Flagstaff's bus line, Flagstaff Mountain Line, now goes downtown, through campus, to the movies, and to other surrounding stores and apartment complexes, so it helps people who live off campus without a set of wheels.

Sometimes a "drunk bus" will be available on the weekends for transportation to and from an off-campus event. That way, students who had too much sauce can get home in one piece. Taxi cabs are another popular option. If you live out of state and plan to fly, you will have to go through Phoenix and drive up from there. Phoenix is an enormous city with plenty of transportation options, so you pretty much have your pick of what to do. The Greyhound bus system and Amtrak rail are more ways for students to get out of Flagstaff and, though a little pricey, they are very reliable. In the Union and in several of the residence halls, you may find a ride board where students can post if they need a ride or passengers. It's a great way to catch a lift and maybe meet a new buddy, too. Transportation is never really a concern here at NAU.

Transportation Given Through School

The transportation for NAU did not seem convenient or helpful at our satellite campus. I am unaware of any buses that transport students from different places.

Transportation at NAU

NAU's campus is so close together that transportation usually isn't necessary, but when it is buses are the way to go. The bus system goes around NAU all the time and are the most convenient way to get around.

NAU is known for the transportation that they offer their students. There's a bus that runs on campus that goes from the north end to the south end every three minutes to pick up and drop off students all along the way. The buses are completely green as NAU is one of the top environmental science schools in the nation. There are plenty of sidewalks and space to walk as you please. Even in the winter when it snows, NAU's underground water piping system heats the sidewalks and clears them so they're aren't slippery or wet! Although, there are parking spots and plenty of roads to drive on, a car is kind of inconvenient since the campus is so small, especially for freshman. At every building, there are lines of bike racks with just about every post chained up because a lot of kids bike to and from their classes and dorms since the weather is so nice. And, biking reinforces our strong dedication to green energy and keeping a clean environment.

Local Taxi Services

A Friendly Cab is very friendly, indeed! They can be reached at (928) 774-4444. The driver will most likely give you his personal phone number, and all the drivers think drunk college kids are really funny!

Did You Know? Tired of walking? Feel like catching the walkway waves? A popular way to get around on the mountain campus is riding a longboard. These elongated skateboards provide an easy way to travel and have become the hippest new thing since ranch dressing on pizza. Cruise the sidewalk and pretend you're at the beach while you go from A to B.
