Prospective Weekend
Open Houses occur four times a year—Columbus Day, Veteran’s Day, President’s Day and a Friday in mid-April. These dates offer opportunities to tour the campus and residence halls, visit with University representatives, and meet with current students. Important tip: Open houses and campus tours are invaluable tools in making your college choice, but University officials hand them to you. Tour leaders are well trained to make sure you come away with the most positive perception of NIU possible. Make every effort to talk to random students to gain their insights as well. They’ll likely provide a more colorful, accurate view of the school. Don’t be afraid to strike up conversations with students just hanging around. They don’t bite and will usually go out of their way to provide information because they were once in your position.
