Sports are a big part of campus life at Northern Michigan University, especially football and hockey. The hockey team has a cheering section called the Puckheads who make the crowd go wild. Our hockey team is really good and they play a huge role in NMU campus life.

We are division 1 in hockey and division 2 in the rest. We also have a vast amount of intramural options for people interested.

Last year the football team wasn't very good-so I didn't go to many games. But, the stadium is pretty cool. It's the largest wooden domed stadium in the state if not the country.
The hockey games are quite fun, a large student group in the one end, by the band.
Quite a few IM teams. Played wally ball last year and probably will this year, too.
NMU is home to several US Olympic team members.

Varsity sports are the main attraction at Northern Michigan University; this is due in part to the Superior Dome, which is one of the largest wooden structures in the world. The Dome and the other athletics buildings on and around campus welcome both the varsity and intramural athletes equally. Almost everyone is in at least varsity or intramural sports on campus and it helps those people make new friendships that last for a lifetime. This will be my first semester on the campus, however every time I've visited everyone is very friendly unlike many other campuses that I've been to in the past.

Northern Michigan is the place to go if you are into physical fitness. Their biggest academic programs involve being outside and being active. There are plenty of sports and teams to play for, there is an excellent fitness facility, all students are required to take at least one course on physical fitness, and students are strongly encouraged to explore the trails, hills, parks, and outdoor activities in the Marquette area. There is so much to do in Marquette, making it very easy on and off campus to stay fit and healthy.
