Off Campus Options Vary – the off-campus options that are conveniently near campus aren't the best in terms of being exceptionally kept. Also any off-campus housing option that is really great is usually very expensive, even when rent is divided among a few roommates. The school really doesn't do much to help you find housing. They mostly just have a website with links to pages with apartment listings.

Relatively Diverse – Northwestern is a lot more diverse than my hometown which is like 95% caucasian. I definitely like the diversity and I think that generally diversity is accepted in the Northwestern community, but I have also noticed that most students of similar backgrounds tend to hang out with each other more than others.

Northwestern is known to give out decent financial aid. I was able to get some money because I have two older siblings in college, which affects how much aid is given out.

Unique Things – Northwestern has a beautiful campus, situated right by the lake and right outside of Chicago. Its teachers are world renowned, and students genuinely enjoy getting involved in campus activities.

Health & Safety:
Pretty Safe – I have not necessarily felt unsafe at Northwestern, but with all of the security alerts that we receive emails about tell me that I should probably shouldn't be as comfortable as I am walking alone at night on campus. But I have noticed that most of these security issues are not necessarily on out campus, but around it (i.e. on streets surrounding campus.)

Athletics at NU are fun if you choose to get involved (and you should). Football games are FREE and most of the time we're competitive and it's exciting to be in the student section with everyone. Off-campus tailgates are fun. Basketball is fun too if you make the trek up in the winter and MAYBE you'll be part of the season we finally get to the NCAA tournament. We're D1 and games are free... go and have fun.

The journalism program is rightly reputed as intense, but it's worth it. Classes are extremely engaging, and professors are very willing to work with students in developing their skills. The Career Services department also assists students in securing jobs and internships during summer and post-graduation.

LOVE IT – I have had nothing but a great time on campus, but you need to come find out for yourself and not only trust me.

Not Strict – I have yet to hear about anybody being unfairly punished by the administration.

Health & Safety:
Fast Response – The university has invested a lot of energy to make sure the students are safe. I have never had an issue and the university is quick to alert students to any issues that arise.

Not the Best, Not the Worst – Greek life here is an interesting enigma. It is definitely popular and definitely a valid option for social life here, but it becomes too limiting and polarizing, both between greeks and non-greeks and between the different houses. I love the girls I've met through my sorority, but it is definitely not without its flaws.

Evanston Rocks! There is ALWAYS a new place to try, and Evanston is known as the food hub of the North shore so it definitely doesn't get better than that!

The academics here are incredible and really make the school stand out. The professors are amazing, the classes are interesting, and everyone here is really interested and invested in what they love and what they learn.

Pretty strict. Easy to get away though if you are smart

Cozy Noodles – a good amount of BYOB places. Not terribly expensive. Yummmmm

Awesome Food – The dining off-campus is great, especially if you're into all types of Asian food. And we have our fair share of Chicago deep dish pizza.

Nice Town – There's enough to do in Evanston -- especially great shopping and restaurants. Of course, it's nothing compared to Chicago, but it's enough to make students happy.

Not Much – Don't expect much. Most people ride a bike or walk.

Pretty Reasonable – As long as you don't do anything stupid, you won't get in trouble. Even if you are caught underage drinking, you most likely won't be in too much trouble. If caught by the police, you might even get off with a warning.

The office told me transfers get the least amount of money because they get it last, but I have received a generous amount. Make sure, though, that you apply for the CSS Profile!

Northwestern Doesn't Help- So Start Early! We don't have a off-campus housing department, so you better get started early. Get a group together ASAP and make sure you stick with each other. Then, ask around. Ask fellow upperclassmen already in apartments for help and if they know anyone moving out. It's all about opportunities; looking in the classifieds only gets you so far. Don't wait until January to start, because apartments go quickly in Evanston- especially the well priced ones!

Most nightlife is related to greeklife. Mondays and Thursdays are big bar nights. The Keg is a popular destination.

Apartments and Houses – On campus is a popular choice for freshman and sophomores. It seems like there are a good amount of options for people looking to live off campus.

Dining Halls have strange hours but decent food. Lots of vegitarian options and you can use points in the student center if you get tired of dining halls.

Some Available, but Bring Your Own – Everywhere on campus has WiFi, even outside, so anywhere you bring your own computer you will have access to anything you need. There are some computers for use in labs around campus, but they tend to be on the slow side and are far enough to make it inconvenient.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
