I have not yet had an internship, but I am thinking of getting one in one of the research labs. There are MANY research assistant opportunities on campus.

Health & Safety:
I've gone to the health center once. It is a new building with all the equipment a regular doctor's office would have. Campus police are quite visible. There is an emergency phone with a blue light at every crossing, and I've run into a few on-duty officers and asked them for directions. The ones I have met are quite friendly.

There are a ton of computer labs on campus. The tech support people are very knowledgeable and friendly, and I can get amazing software such as CAD for free as a college student. It costs like 10 cents per page to print, so long reports can get expensive. There is a wireless network on campus, but it is difficult to access at first. Once you connect, it is a very fast network. Many classrooms have state of the art equipment.

The people here are very friendly. I've made friends from all over the world. Classes are difficult, but the professors are friendly and are willing to help you out if you are having difficulty with their subject matter. As a freshman, I have not experienced any upperclassman hazing of any kind; in contrast, upperclassmen are very willing to show us the ropes and teach us freshmen about campus traditions. I love it here.

Campus officials are VERY strict about noise violations and parking. They don't mind people starting new student organizations. In fact, I'm starting my own a capella group on campus and the process has been very easy. There is quite a bit of drinking going on, particularly on weekends, and I don't think officials do much to stop it.

I am a non-Greek. Advertising for the fraternities and sororities is everywhere, and members are constantly inviting you to parties and other events. Non-Greeks are generally indifferent to the fact that their classmates belong to a chapter. It does not change the way we treat them.

Parking is very close to dorms and classes. However, it is very hard to find a spot, and campus police are periodically touring the parking lots and making sure everyone has a permit and is parked correctly. They find the tiniest things to fine you for, such as having one of your tires slightly on the parking line. Permits are quite expensive.

Make sure you check the status of your financial aid and fill out every single form required. Several times I had to fill out new forms, and once on campus I had to visit the office of financial aid a couple of times to make sure things went smoothly. I received all the aid I needed though.

I've met people from all over the United States and all over the world. People of all racial backgrounds and religious beliefs. Within my own circle of friends, there are people from China, Greece, Korea, and South America, besides locals.

There is absolutely no visibility during the week. However, the school becomes a total party school during the weekends, according to my on-campus friends. It is not rare to see someone on your floor come reeling in drunk.

I am a commuter student, so I'm not on campus at night.

Evanston is a beautiful town located on Lake Michigan just outside of Chicago. They offer a free shuttle to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in downtown Chicago. As a student of Art History, I am afforded the luxury of visiting some of the most magnificent museums in the world. I love the quaint, residential setting of our campus. We are able to walk to parks, the lake and many quaint churches. With the large international population at Northwestern, I have learned about other countries religions in the most in depth manner available. Local residents are tolerant of the student-life, however at times I do feel as though they eagerly look forward to the lazy days of summer.

There are many club sponsored events during the evenings. I have joined a few clubs on campus, but do not have the opportunity to enjoy the bar/club scene in town. Between classes, work and studying, I typically stay on campus. Transportation for the rare times I do go out has been excellent.

I was able to declare my major during my freshman year and begin the necessary studies immediately. I am fortunate to work with graduate students of Art History through my work-study job. This has afforded me the advantage of learning helpful guidance while working through my college career. The professors at Northwestern are some of the most prestigious scholars in the world and I am often lucky enough to have small chat sessions with them. Not many other universities offer such a small, intimate climate.

The registration process through CAESAR is extremely easy to navigate. We are fortunate to have access to our professors with little or no delay. The workload has been the most difficult for me to adapt to as high school was not very challenging for me. I learned early on the importance of keeping on top of my studying and am thankful that I was able adapt fairly quickly while keeping up a solid gpa. None of this would have been as easy had I not had the support of my professors and grad students.

Northwestern's Wildcats are a big part of the school setting. We also boast a Quidditch Team and Dodgeball. Frisbee on the Quad is very popular, especially with our international students. No matter what the sport, when you stroll through downtown Evanston, Purple Pride is everywhere!

One of the reasons for selecting Northwestern University was the green spaces. Our campus is situated right on the shores of Lake Michigan. We are fortunate to have access to Chicago with the Metra rail system and CTA. Many of the campus activities center around our lake and residential neighborhood. We have one of the most comprehensive libraries in the nation, an amazing Art Museum and state of the art Science labs. The Norris Center is a great place to meet other students from the north side of the campus.

Playing Intramural Dodgeball on the Quad has been a new and enjoyable experience for me. Most of my high school years were spent reading, performing with our choir and helping our technical theater department. It was great to join a sport Northwestern. I also enjoyed last year's Dance Marathon and hope to join again this year. Northwestern earned over a million dollars for the Danny Did Foundation. My uncle has had epilepsy his entire life so this was an extremely personal fundraiser for me and my entire family.

Network reliability in my new dorm has not been as reliable. The common areas of the university afford reliability.

During my freshman year, I was a Kaplan Honors Student. This allowed me to make many friendships with other students with similar interests. By have a work study, I was able to find a job in the Art History Department. Being able to discuss the program with many of the professors in that department has been an added bonus to my experience here at Northwestern.

Northwestern offers many internship opportunities in large cities all over the world. I plan on taking advantage of that during my junior year.
College Sophomore 2013-11-01T03:00:17Z
I am amazed by the diversity of Northwestern and proud to be a part of the campus culture.

Campus Shuttle to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago is a plus!
College Sophomore 2013-10-20T23:36:51Z
Greek life is HUGE here. I feel like so many people I know are in frats or sororities. They are not perceived negatively by the majority of the campus and provide a good source of entertainment events and social life.
College Sophomore 2013-10-04T03:07:32Z
I have yet to see since I've been in it for less than a year - but so far it is not too bad.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
