Shuttles Are Convenient – Shuttles run throughout the day to take you along Sheridan Road, and extras run during the harsh winter months.

No One Has a Car – Only about 5 percent of students on campus have cars. There isn't a huge need for one, except to go to Jewel instead of Whole Foods, which can save you money. And, if you want to go downtown, it's much easier to take the El than to drive.

Alcohol Over Drugs – Alcohol is the drug of choice at Northwestern. Alcohol policies are put into place and students will face being written up if drinking in the dorms and underage in the presence of alcohol. Peer pressure is at a minimum at Northwestern. No one forces alcohol or drugs on anyone. Smoking is what you will find. Drugs don't come up unless you are in an intense search for them.

Big Ten School? Football and basketball-those are the only male sports that students actually go to see. Women's lacrosse has more fans than anything besides those first two. The athletic facilities are very nice, and the student section is free for any Northwestern student. The games from these three sports always have packed seats with a sea of purple in the student sections. The school traditions at games are fun and unify everyone with school spirit.

Health & Safety:
Super Safe – The campus is very safe. There are emergency call boxes placed all around campus. Campus security and Evanston police make rounds every night. Part of the good thing about Northwestern being in its own town means that the local police help the University police, and more safety is achieved. There are emergency call and text services so that everyone on campus is informed. There are also e-mails frequently sent out to students regarding safety. I feel very safe on campus. Crime is at a low here at Northwestern.

Academic Excellence – Northwestern University prides itself on having great academics. The professors are really professionals in what they teach. They are passionate about their subject matter. The teachers and TAs are available to help you with any questions. The workload can be a bit tedious, but worth it. The registration process can be frustrating because some students with earlier registration times might have chosen the classes that you want. In the end, you get the classes you need for your major though. There are many different areas to study, and it makes it really easy to find your niche.

About half of the student population is involved in Greek life at Northwestern, and most students attend Greek events and parties, regardless of membership in Greek life. There are numerous houses on North and South campuses.

Above Average, Even for a Celiac – There are numerous dining halls on North and South campus, and there are many high-quality, varying options at each hall. There are several convenience stores across campus for late-night snack fixes or even for on-the-run meals.

What You Make It – In every school, there are a whole bunch of people who will complain. I love Northwestern. I came here because Medill is the top journalism school in the country, but the people are awesome. Aside by the random stuck-up rich kids, NU is full of some of the least pretentious, most community-oriented chill people. We party but not excessively and we study without completely losing our mind. There's also something to be said for the Greek community (which I didn't plan on joining before college). We have such a large Greek population because there's a large variety. We're more than just your stereotypically frat boys and sorority girls. NU is charming and being near a big city is nice, too.

There's a Range.. Some dorms are old with tiny rooms and others are new and spacious. It's really a range. Most people move off campus by junior year though.

Pretty Decent – The food is pretty decent. Block plans are always your best bet though because the people who complain the most about food are the people who can't use meals in Norris (student center). If you're a vegan/vegetarian, get excited because we're continually ranked high on options for you. Otherwise, it won't be the most exciting part of your day, but it's more than bearable.

Nice, but Pricey – It's a nice community atmosphere but pricey.

If you park ANYWHERE in Evanston, you will definitely end up with some type of ticket ranging from $25 to $60! This city has no tolerance for available parking. Every street has two-hour parking and/or parking on certain days. I swear, they perform street cleaning on every street twice a week! Evanston has the cleanest streets in America and collects the most money out of any city in America. Students have the following option: walking, parking and coming out with a ticket every two hours, or buying a $300 student parking pass.

Evanston Noise Policy – Northwestern University is thoroughly ingrained in the Evanston community as a whole. Therefore, most of Evanston's rules apply to Northwestern's students. Evanston has a no-noise policy that begins at 10 p.m. Talk about being strict! If fraternities or athletes want to throw a party at their off-campus house, it is very likely that the police will shut the whole thing down before midnight and give an expensive ticket to those throwing the party. This makes the party scene at Northwestern a bore!

Printing on Campus – As a journalism student in the Medill School of Journalism, I have access to free printing within our school's buildings. I take advantage of this opportunity whenever I have an assignment due because maintaining a home printer is an extra expense that I cannot afford at the moment. In the library, there is a cost to print per page. However, many students have found ways around paying for printing in either their school buildings or student association houses; i.e., The Black House or Multicultural Student Affairs House.

The process of rush for both sororities and frats is miserable, so many people feel left dejected, and then people go around priding themselves on the quality of their Greek house. It's kind of ridiculous, but going to the events is fun even for those who choose not to go Greek. Greek life is a big deal at Northwestern, though-it's everywhere.

Brainiacs, Rock on – There is a group of people that go out religiously, there are others who go out as they choose, less frequently, and then there are the complete geeks who don't dare see the light of day much less the inside of a bar. But the access to Chicago is FABULOUS! So if every students want a break from the less-than-class bar scene in Evanston, the Windy City and all its Saturday night glory are just a train ride away. Also, the biggest nights to go out are Monday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Big Ten, Unacknowledged – It's great that Northwestern is in the Big Ten, but as this school is pretty prestigious, a lot of the athletics go unacknowledged. Aside from the small, regular group of students who appreciate downing beer in the morning before football games and an afternoon of drunken studying, recruiting fans to events is not very easy.

Interdisciplinary Studies – There are a lot of opportunities to take classes that combine different fields that you may not think of as related at first. For instance, there is a class on the economy and sports. This allows students to really view fields in different views.

Lots of Cultural Options – There are definitely a lot of different types of foods you can get at Northwestern, ranging from Greek to Thai to Italian. Almost all places have takeout or delivery options for food on the go.

City Life – As a Northwestern student, you get the unique chance to explore Evanston, but also the city of Chicago. You can visit one of the many museums, go downtown to shop with friends, go to a Cubs game, or go eat delicious food in one of the cultural towns.

Residence Colleges are Great – They aren't for everyone, and some are better than others. Willard is the best, for its spacious rooms, non-theme, celebrity alums, and serious pride. But housing is a mixed bag at NU (res hall or college), but in the end, it's the people you live with, rather than the dated decor of your dorm. But seriously, things are getting better, and NU's putting some money into renovating housing.

Go U! I personally LOVE LOVE LOVE Northwestern. The campus location is great, right on the lake and next to one of the greatest cities in the world. The student community is vibrant, with millions of things going on every week. The academic community is thriving, and our sports teams aren't too shabby, either. The social scene is a bit tricky to figure out, but most everyone settles comfortably into place sooner or later. Overall, Northwestern is a great school, and I wouldn't trade my experience for anything.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
