We're a member of the Big Ten, which fosters a lot of spirit. Many people attend football and basketball games, but the other sports are not as well attended. Women's lacrosse and men's soccer are pretty popular. Club and IM sports are also big. Sororities and Fraternities often participate in IM sports, and so do dorms and individuals.

Plenty of computer labs, not sure of any recent rennovation but available nonetheless.

Athletics are fantastic, there are fraternities and sororities, an amazing library and student union.

Health & Safety:
There were plenty of on-campus security measures. Lights, safety boxes, security fobs.

Great school with a great reputation. I attended undergrad when the campus was just starting to expand so things are different, more modernized now.

Evanston Dining is fantastic. I'm rather picky when it comes to food and there is still a bounty of restaurants within walking distance of campus I enjoy.

The intro classes are big like they would be at any university but all the lecturers are professors and some really are excellent.

As an Econ Major I was able to find a paid internship in my home town as a freshman. All the details have been yet to be solidified but the fact I went to Northwestern played a big role in getting the internship.

The food here isn't great, but it isn't terrible either. I imagine it's better than the options at most schools. There are usually plenty of options, although you can still get bored, but that will happen anywhere. Norris is a great place to get food and use equivalency meals to mix up what youre eating.

It really depends on how the winter goes here. In the fall and spring, the weather is great.... But the fall and spring could also be cut short if we have a bad winter. We had a lot of snow this winter, and walking to class can be a pain sometimes.

People do care about sports like football and basketball, and our womens lacrosse team is awesome. But, in general, i feel like varsity sports still don't play a huge role here. We also have IM sports and Club teams, which are a great way to get involved with athletics without the commitment.

They are certainly sufficient facilities for any whim, however a lot of them are not exactly state of the art. The academic programs are extensive and do not require much explanation as they create the incredible legacy of Northwestern. Unique opportunities are the hallmark of NU, where if you can dream it you can probably make it happen and find some one or some people who are also interested!

The weather in the summer is awesome. The bad part is most students are not on campus during the warm sunny summer quarter. However, winter in Chicago has its perks in all the outdoor activities and winter festivities to be enjoyed if students make use of the nearby city.

Great variety! Tons of options for any taste buds or dietary habits such as vegan eating. The meal plans are also expensive but very comprehensive in the options available if explored.

A great variety of places to eat, enjoy Lake Michigan, study, hangout, you name it.

There are a lot of athletes in Northwestern, and they comprise a good portion of our class. That being said, most athletes are extremely talented not only at their sport, but at academics too, and this sometimes compromises their abilities in sports. This is why most of our teams do not perform as well as other Big 10 teams in sports such as basketball, soccer, etc. There is still a lot of fan support for these athletes as many students still come out to games, but I'm assuming that the fan support is not as high as larger schools purely because of the numbers. School spirit is still huge, though, as many people enjoy their Purple Pride. Athletic facilities are very very nice, and there are more than enough facilities for students to use. IM sports are also prevalent, and students get that chance to play the sports they want to in IM teams.

The program I am in is called Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences. In addition, I am taking a double major with Economics. This program is very specific, but there are several other people taking the program as well. The professors are fantastic and easy to talk to, and the material is challenging and makes you feel like you are getting an education. In addition, the curriculum is quite difficult, and the workload is at a very fast pace compared to most schools because it is on the quarter system. That being said, Industrial Engineering is a relatively easier engineering degree here, and the workload may not be as bad as those other degrees in McCormick. Internship opportunities are plentiful, and being well-connected with underground societies, your professors, and your T.A.s will definitely help with internships. Job opportunities after graduating in this field are supposedly very good as well, since Northwestern has the support of the facility in Kellogg for business-related studies.

Transportation is very good in our school. Because the weather in our area during the school year is very cold, it is necessary to have shuttles that take students to different areas of campus, and we have shuttles that provide that for free, and at relatively convenient times. Unfortunately, these main shuttles do not run during the day time (they only start at around 6:00 or so) and the ones that do run during the day time are the intercampus shuttles, which come at sporadic time periods. When the weather becomes extremely cold (below 30 degrees F), then more frequent shuttles occur, but not regularly. In addition, there are intercampus shuttles to the Chicago campus which are also free and basically take students to Chicago for free. This is extremely helpful and convenient and much appreciated by the students. Finally, there are shuttles that take students to downtown Evanston, which is also convenient for hanging out and accessibility. Overall, shuttles are run very well in our school.

Greek life is huge at Northwestern. I would say more than 50% of students here join some sort of fraternity. Considering this is such a small school, I would approximate that same number to other colleges and universities, but it takes a large presence here. This means that many social events and parties are run by the Greek Life, and it does dominate a large portion of campus, in terms of the social atmosphere. Many people will ask if you are involved in a fraternity, and it may seem like the only option at some point. However, this being said, being non-Greek has no issues whatsoever. Those who choose to be non-Greek are not viewed condescendingly and are very well able to find other people who are not involved in the Greek life as well. Also, the Greek system is relatively split up based on where you live on campus, so that's another factor to consider. Finally, the Greek housing system is phenomenal and once you are a brother or sister of the Greek life, there are great houses to live in, and it is relatively easy to get housing there, which is dependent on a point system.

The campus strictness is not too bad at Northwestern. There are several rules regarding the use of alcohol and drug use, but if someone does get caught with alcohol, with underage drinking for example, the consequences include a warning the first time, and perhaps probation the second time. Northwestern mainly cares about the safety of their students, so they are not extremely strict when it comes to these rules.
College Junior 2013-03-27T01:57:25Z
More people do drugs than one may intially expect. It isn't out there all over and there is little pressure to get involved if you don't want to.

Tons of restaurants in downtown Evanston on the south end of campus, a healthy strip up north on Noyes as well. Good selection, a bit pricey but that's Chicago for you.

Many computer in the library but otherwise hard to find. Wireless is usually relatively reliable but can go through rough patches for a number of days.

Health & Safety:
I have never felt unsafe at Northwestern. There is plenty of lighting around campus and a blue light security system. Even as a girl, I feel completely secure walking alone at night. All the dorms have a security system and the large ones have security guards as well.

The student body is very diverse. There are people from many different backgrounds and from all over the world.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
