College Prowler Take
Northwestern students? Risking academics or an internship just to smoke a joint? As with any college campus, if you want marijuana, you can find it, but most likely, you’ll discover stockpiles of Smirnoff and Bacardi—perfectly legal, thank you very much. A lot of people partake solely in social situations, a nip of vodka at a mixer, or a toke off a communal joint at an off-campus house party. There are exceptions to every rule, and everyone knows that one guy who reeks of pot every time he leaves his room. So, if you want to partake, that’s your business. But if not, there won’t be any pressure, and it’s entirely possible that you’ll spend four years at Northwestern without ever coming down with a serious case of the munchies.

There aren’t many people that do a lot of hardcore drugs on campus. There is a bunch of pot smoking, but no one feels pressure to indulge unless they choose to based on free will. It’s there if you want it, but it’s not something that can’t be avoided. |

By far, the most popular drug on campus (after alcohol) is marijuana. I think most people, even if they don’t use, tolerate it, and don’t look down on others who do. There are a lot of people who are ‘occasional’ users at parties and such. Beyond that, most other drugs are available on campus, and they are used regularly. The important thing to remember is that drug use is not isolated to outsiders or a ‘drug culture.’ Rather, it’s just another part of life, along with sex, drinking, and partying. |

My impression is that most people drink and a majority of students smoke pot, but harder drug users are in the minority. It really runs the spectrum, though. |

Alcohol is much more prevalent than any illegal drugs, though. Except maybe for pot. It’s hard to tell. There are a lot of sober people, however, and you’re not going to find anyone forcing drugs on you. |

It fluctuates. Depends where you are. You’ll always find that one guy that does every drug on the planet, but for the most part, people don’t do anything. |
