Most students feel pretty safe walking around campus at night, and NU does a good job of promoting its safety options. There are blue-light phones in various places around campus, CSOs (community service officers) at the entrance of all dorms, SafeRide (a campus car service), and the Northwestern University Police Department can be seen roaming campus at various times of the night. Most safety incidents that occur are in the areas and neighborhoods surrounding campus. When such an event happens, students are notified via an email the details of the time and location of the offense. In addition, Northwestern tests its outdoor voice system the first Tuesday of every month. It may scare you at first, but it’s all for your safety. No matter where you are, it is not a good idea to walk by yourself at night. So whether you are coming back from late-night studying or partying in the wee hours of the morning, make sure your friends know where you are.

When it comes to health, NU does a good job of taking care of its students. Student Health Services takes care of everything from the flu to broken bones. Have prescription medicine? Student Health Services can take care of that, as well. Also, CVS is just a short walk away from South Campus. Northwestern also offers Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), which offers a variety of counseling courses for students who need them.
