College Prowler Take

The sheer volume and variety of tasty vittles right on NU’s doorstep earns consistently high marks from students. There may be no restaurants on campus to speak of, but a mere five-minute walk leads you to a global culinary adventure. Clarke’s, a cozy hangout, offers food for all palates and breakfast all day long. Burger King is the only 24-hour restaurant within close proximity, and Sherman, a late-night cashier, is an NU legend. Other popular spots are Chipotle and Flat Top Grill, a hop, skip, and a jump from campus, and good date fare.

Getting off-campus every once in a while is a good idea,
and Evanston’s restaurants make it that much better. Stray a little from well-known haunts to discover quaint eateries like Blind Faith Café or the Noyes St. Café. Northwestern’s student government also created a database of Evanston restaurants that gives ratings, menus, and other vital info. Consult this Bible of sorts, grab a friend, and get ready to
be pleasantly surprised.

Every Monday is Giordano’s...

Every Monday is Giordano’s half-price pizza night—you must go at least once to understand. It’s the best pizza in the world, and you can eat enough to be quite full on less than $5 once a week. Good for dates: Trattoria Demi: cute little Italian bistro-ish place. I recommend the lasagna spinaci. Good ‘fast’ food’: Potbelly Sandwich Works (Try the chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, they’re to die for. Also the pizza sub is my personal recommendation). Joy Yee’s Noodles is the best not-national chain Asian food I’ve ever had. It’s not terribly expensive, the service is super-fast, the food is fabulous, and there is a wide range from ‘typical’ to ‘really out there,’ and they have these great teas and fresh fruit smoothies that you can get tapioca bubbles in (very hip trend—must try).

The restaurants in Evanston are awesome. Carmen’s Pizza is the best and Giorodano’s has half-price pizza night on Monday’s. Mount Everst has great Indian food, and Clarke’s is always great for a yummy Charlie Brownie Sundae. (The most amazing and huge brownie sundae in town!)

There’s no shortage of restaurants in Evanston. Just about every ethnicity is represented, and a wide price range. My favorites are Tapas Barcelona and Lulu’s.

Evanston has a huge variety of...

Evanston has a huge variety of great food, much of it quite inexpensive. For Italian, try Trattoria Demi. Giordano’s has famously delicious stuffed pizza. For Mexican food, Chipotle offers great burritos, and Las Palmas and That Little Mexican Cafe have everything else. Mt. Everest offers delicious and modestly-priced Indian and Nepalese cuisine. Blind Faith Cafe is a vegetarian restaurant that’s a little pricey but definitely recommended. Dozika and New Japan offer some very good sushi and other Asian cuisine. And if you just want a sandwich, Potbelly and Panera are both cheap and very tasty. Vive le Crepe is a cool place that just opened, and it is fairly cheap as well. There is much good food to be enjoyed.

Food in town is hit or miss. There’s half off pizza at Giordano’s on Mondays. Joy Yee’s is good. Baja Fresh and Clarke’s are also favorites. You can always take the El train into Chicago.
