How to Get to the Airport

College Prowler Take

Transportation in and around campus is excellent—from the El to the Metra, buses to cabs, everything you need to escape E-town is virtually at your fingertips. $1.75 brings you into the heart of the city or takes you to a number of swanky, fun neighborhoods. Trains also run fairly late into the night, so there’s no need to spend $30 to have a crazed Nascar wannabe (taxi driver) escort you home.

With the cost of parking being what it is, it’s no small wonder students look toward the inexpensive option of public transportation. You may run into an occasional eccentric on the El but for the most part, trains are cheap, quick, and easy. If only the women at NU were like public transportation . . .

In Evanston, I usually just walk everywhere, but if I want to go to Chicago or to the mall, I take mass transit and it’s really convenient.

Transportation here is great—you’re connected to all parts of the city and most suburbs. However, don’t get locked into only taking public transportation. If you invest in a good pair of walking shoes, you’ll see parts of the city that aren’t directly off the El lines.

The El is pretty convenient to campus and has lots of stops, though the Purple Line doesn’t run all night which is unfortunate.

Public transportation is great! The train is just minutes away from the dorms, and you can get into Chicago in less than an hour for just $1.75. I love the El.

The El runs right onto our campus, so it’s pretty convenient. The El is definitely not as efficient as, say, the subway in New York. Still, it’s not too bad.
