Advice on Financial Aid
If you can't afford to pay out of pocket for college (like most of the population), then you will need to apply for financial aid. Financial aid services are easy to acquire. All you need to do is fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid online, also called FAFSA, after the first of January. The sooner you send it out, the better financial aid you will get. If you want grant money or work-study, time matters; a week can be a large determining factor in what amount of financial aid you receive. But even if you get something like a work-study position, it is up to you to get the job yourself. If you don't get a job, the money will go away. Oakland University tries to cover all your financial needs by giving you the possibility of a combination of grants, loans, and scholarships. Some scholarships you must apply for independent of your FAFSA.
