College Prowler Take
At Oberlin, the facilities necessary for a good education are first rate. Oberlin’s library collection contains over two million separate items, as well as a strong and growing collection of online resources. The Allen Memorial Art Museum is a favorite amongst students—its vast collection of art from around the world is one of the finest in the country. The newly-built science center is spacious and well lit, and the Environmental Studies Building is a cutting-edge experiment in a green building. And even though Oberlin isn’t renowned for its athletics, it has sports facilities to rival those of a major university, including a large swimming pool, personal training programs, and a football stadium. The incredible musical facilities of the Conservatory are not to be ignored either. An entire wing at the back of the Conservatory is devoted to student practice rooms, each of which contain a Steinway piano, in addition to special rooms with organs, harpsichords, and drum sets. Despite the first-class facilities at Oberlin, buildings are not overly imposing or pretentious. Students tend to gather in Wilder Hall, the student union building—a cozy space with couches, TVs, gender-neutral bathrooms, and a snack bar, Decafé, downstairs. Wilder Hall is also home to the WOBC radio station, which houses an extensive collection of music, and is the pride and joy of many students involved in radio. Other excellent facilities include the Peters Observatory, Finney Chapel (for concerts and speeches), and the various computer labs scattered around campus.

Phillips is a great gym—the teams aren’t quite as hot, but hey, this is Oberlin; that’s not why want to you come, is it? The buildings are clean and don’t usually smell (except dorms on weekends; that’s not the college’s fault, it’s the students’). |

The facilities meet their purposes pretty well. The gym and the computer labs are pretty standard, and pretty nice. The student union is too small to hold the big events comfortably, which makes it charming. |

I think the facilities are all very good, though I’m not athletic. The computers are all quite new, and pretty fast. |

FactsWhat To Do on Campus
In between classes, you can join a protest, go for a bike ride, grab a bite to eat at Decafé, watch a game of Frisbee in Wilder Bowl, hear students practice in the Conservatory, take in a play, meander around the Allen Memorial Art Museum, or attend one of many stimulating lectures by visiting scholars, artists, and activists without ever leaving the school campus.
Favorite Things To Do
Guest lectures usually draw a larger audience than any sports events do, and students flock to Craig Lecture Hall, King, Peters, Wilder Hall, and the Environmental Studies Center to imbue themselves with the words of wisdom of visiting scholars, writers, and political activists. Because Oberlin also has a Conservatory of Music, the school draws renowned musicians from around the world, and students often line up in front of Finney Chapel or the ‘Sco to hear anything from classical music concerts to punk rock shows—all for only a few dollars. The Cat in the Cream offers student sketch comedy, solo poetry readings, and musical performances. For less intellectual stimulation, the on-campus bowling allies provide ample time to relax and hit the pins, or just gaze at the stars and contemplate the universe in the Peters Observatory.
