College Prowler Take
Students at Oberlin don’t think transportation is an issue—that is, until they want to get out of town. So long as they can get what they need in Oberlin—be it shampoo, groceries, stamps, or beer—there is little need to leave town. Then again, Oberlin only has one small movie theater, two bars, and no malls, so students looking for different forms of entertainment, versus those readily available, are best off taking the Lorain County Transit into Elyria, or to the airport near Cleveland. And it is nearly a consensus that to get out of town, public transportation is not the way to go. Hopefully, you will have a friend with a car.
Besides public transportation, students also rely on their peers to give them rides into Cleveland or other surrounding towns, to go to concerts and bars, or just to get away from Oberlin for an afternoon at the Cleveland Art Museum or the Botanical Gardens. For the most part, though, students tend to be so busy with academics and social engagements at Oberlin, that the desire to get out of town is often undermined by sheer lack of time. Students who spend most of their days in Oberlin—meaning just about everyone—are happy simply using a bicycle or their own two feet to get around town. The bike co-op offers students affordable, recycled bicycles. For those who don’t feel safe walking around at night, the Safety and Security shuttle is convenient and free of charge.

All you’ve got to do is walk—it couldn’t be more than half a mile. Or, ride your bike. We’ve got the LCT, but it’s not that great, and not especially convenient. Make friends with someone with a car. |

Public transportation isn’t very convenient, maybe once every one and a quarter hours. It’s better to get a ride from someone. Find a friend who has a car. |

The LCT (county bus) is free. It doesn’t run very often, but it isn’t impossible to get out of town. To get around town, simply walk. |
