Occidental has earned the title of being one of the most wired colleges of its size. Computers are available to those who need them, and those students with their own have very few problems doing what they need to do. There are small problems here and there, specifically with the speed of the Internet connection, but overall, most students are happy with the computers on campus. Computer support is an entirely different situation, and beyond basic computer problems, many students complained about a lack of support, confusing online directions, and issues that arose again and again that could not be fixed.

Very little in terms of technology or information is out of reach, and the many resources that the school offers are easy to find and use. The wireless network on campus is impressive and incredibly helpful in this. It is a common sight to see a student working outside. Most students have no problem with getting help with their computers, and find the Information and Technology Services (ITS) helpful in fixing basic computer problems. Some, however, have major issues with assistance for Macintosh computers or more complex problems that occur. Beyond setting up e-mail or fixing minor glitches, problems often arise that require weeks to fix or never get fixed at all. The Internet connection is also a source of contention as well. Even though the school has multiple high-speed Internet connections, it is slowed down by the high number of students who download music and other files through the many file-sharing programs. The school is working on these problems though, and with a $500,000 technology increase in the budget, improvement appears to be on the way.

Easy Access to Computers at Occidental College

Occidental College provides a number of PC's and Macs in the library. Every dorm on campus has its own computer lab of 6 computers and a printing/scanning/faxing machine. The best part of the computer labs is free printing. Although this might seem like people will print too much, there is a widespread conscious not to waste paper, so most people don't. Most people on campus have their own computer, but it's very easy for those who don't to find one on campus. The college provides password-free WiFi accessible almost anywhere on campus. The internet connection is relatively good. If a computer doesn't work, the internet appears slow, or there's a question about how to work something, the ITS is available to call for help. The ITS keeps the college up to date with the servers, such as if they're planning on shutting it down to work on something.

There is free printing everywhere on campus, your can borrow laptops, internet is pretty good, wireless all on campus

Every dorm has a computer lab with a printer, and you can always use he library's many computers. I've never had a problem finding an open one.
