Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The men and women of Oxy are pretty standard for any college. There is certainly not a lack of people on campus to hook up with or to start a relationship with, and very few people complain about that situation. While there is no over-abundance of beautiful people, there is no lack of them either. Most people at school seem satisfied with the hookup and relationship options, although several did say that they did not like the high school mentalities that a lot of people at Oxy have.

While most people at the school are sexually promiscuous, it is very rarely talked about openly and still carries a small stigma with it. Most people have random hookups and eventually people try their hand at relationships. For the most part, though, this is rarely talked about openly, and occasionally rumors can arise through the “Oxy Grapevine.” But most students enjoy themselves and don’t find the situation lacking, oftentimes preferring hooking up on campus rather than even considering looking elsewhere. As with any other place, any person who makes a serious effort can find a compatible person at Oxy to hook up with or get into a relationship with. Occidental has a very high rate of students that end up marrying each other later on in life, which shows how easy it can be for anyone to find people to have fun with or to become more seriously involved with. There are complaints about the guys and girls at Oxy, but they are very few, and seem to be on par with what could come from any school. Overall, the scene at Oxy is slightly above average and no serious worries ever arise from the students.

Diversity?

Although most students appear to come from similar affluent backgrounds, Oxy does do a good job a pulling students from a wide range of academic interest and intellectual ability.

Guys Look Better the Longer You Stay on Campus

The people here are awesome and really different. It can be obnoxious sometimes because there are so many loud opinions flying around but if you learn to appreciate that all those opinions came from a different childhood in a different place it is pretty cool. Also, because it is such a small school, people start becoming more attractive the longer you are around them and no one else...

Social Scene

Occidental is very small, which often leads to people learning of rumors about themselves and friends or partners from the "Oxy Grapevine." Most students are outgoing and interactive, though, and there is very little open hostility among anyone on campus. Most people like to hang out on campus, usually drinking in small parties in the dorms. When dances are put on, they are a huge event for the students, and the majority of students will attend.

Hookups or Relationships?

Oxy definitely has a hookup culture that can lead to occasional relationships. Most relationships begin from meeting at a party or dance and hooking up with someone there. Sometimes this can lead to a relationship, but most of it is casual sex. This is changing with each new incoming freshman class into meeting people specifically for a relationship, but this change is gradual, and has had little overall effect.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Most people meet others by going to different dorms and partying at one of the many small, drinking get-togethers that go on each weekend. From there, friends, dating partners, and casual hookups begin. Students also meet through classes, and by finding other people in their dorms with similar tastes and personalities. Most hookups occur after the many dances and school-sponsored parties as well, and this can occasionally lead to hookup partners and even more rarely to serious relationships.

Dress Code

Most kids at Oxy dress very casually, and each person has their own distinct style. Some emphasis is placed on the kind of clothes that people wear, but this is rare. Usually people wear anything from sweatpants and pajamas to office-casual wear during the week, and dress up fairly nicely for the major school-sponsored events
