The weather is typically pretty nice. Obviously there are the random rainy/snowy/bad weather days, but the weather around campus is usually nice enough to not effect campus activities.

There are a lot of options to choose from around campus. Some of the places aren't exactly budget friendly, but there are a lot more of the reasonably priced places to be found. This IS Atlanta after-all. Especially the Buckhead area.
College Sophomore 2013-05-27T17:49:20Z
Hot and humid in the summer and brisk in the winter. We rarely get snow. It is not a very rain-friendly campus and fills with water fast. Flooding does not last long though.

Academics are very on point for the most part. Oglethorpe has absolutely NO teaching assistants, which is excellent! You will get one-on-one interaction with professors in every class. Some processors are not as good as others, but they will ask a lot from you. You have to study very hard for most classes. Also, reading and writing is huge here. For Core be prepared to read about 10 books for your first year and write a paper for each (varies by professor). All classes I have taken (expect for math, on the whole) have had reading and writing components. The curriculum is very interlaced.

The school is not strict about most things, and in almost all cases they are completely uninvolved in our lives. However, if students misbehave in an extreme way (aka setting stuff on fire, breaking windows, etc) they will punish them. The only thing that they are very strict about is the honor code. Cheating is not tolerated at all.

Campus safety doesn't really poke around in the students' business unless you're really obvious or dangerous. Not to say you won't get in trouble if you're found with drugs, but if you're 21 you're allowed to have alcohol since we're a "wet campus." The parties generally have alcohol (though it might be hard to get at times) and campus safety rarely interferes. Our drug scene is pretty tame. Drinking is huge, marijuana is fairy big, though not extremely evident unless you look for it. Other drugs are present, but harder to find.

Greek life is great for parties, but no one really cares about it except people in it. Do not be scared by the media image of Greek life; Oglethorpe is different! It is definitely NOT like at other schools. Our chapters are pretty quirky for the most part, and very loving toward each other. Since they are very small (about 30-50 members in each) it makes our Greek community very close! I think it's a fun way to get involved, and since it is very non exclusive I recommend everyone go through rush and recruitment, even if just to meet people.

Living in Atlanta is a huge plus of going to Oglethorpe! There is plenty to do, and with the Marta station being so close, it's very easy to get around if you don't have a car. There are so many restaurants and parks, and the nightlife is great! The city also offers a lot of opportunity for internships... you never know who you'll meet. I was able to get an internship just by meeting someone at the gym!

Sometimes you'll have a problem getting parking at the dorms and the library, but overall it's not a big problem.
College Sophomore 2013-05-27T17:04:04Z
Upperclassman dorms are significantly newer than the freshman dorms, and are apartment style, which is nice. Unfortunately they are much smaller rooms, though the facilities are very nice. For first years, I recommend Traer over Dempsy because it has a good social atmosphere. It is louder, but definitely better for meeting new people, which is important in the first year.
College Sophomore 2013-05-27T16:59:09Z
Oglethorpe does not provide transportation because the campus is so small that it is not necessary. However, campus safety will pick you up from the Marta station if you need.

Oglethorpe just received a large grant to complete renovations, these new renovations will enhance the already apartment like housing available for upperclassman. However, until they remove traer the freshman hall then entering students will have to wait to experience the beautiful campus housing. Traer isn't that bad but has a very communal feel to it.

The academic courses are very rigorous and writing intensive. If you don't like to read heavily, you don't like to write, and you don't like to research then get yourself a tutor because Oglethorpe requires this of you in its core classes. However, it develops great thinkers.

The Athletics department is very organized and an asset to those who participate in them. Most of the athletic events are well attended. Because Oglethorpe is a division three school you don't get the over zealous team fanatics you would get at a division one school.

Oglethorpe's greek life isn't very diverse. It just recently added two African-American sororities.

I believe that the Oglethorpe provides a great curriculum for its students. They really force you to think.
College Sophomore 2013-05-15T00:34:25Z
Parking on campus really depends on where you want to park. If you want to park close to class there's always space, however parking at the dorms is rough, usually only one or two spots open.

I attend Oglethorpe University. This year I was a freshman, half my classes were towards my major, the other were either required classes or prerequisites. I am beyond satisfied with all my classes except for my math courses. My major in Bio-psychology requires both biology and psychology courses, I have yet to take my science classes, but I have thoroughly enjoyed my psychology classes. These classes challenge my personal beliefs, leaving me stronger. I've had some pretty crazy professors, ones that jump on tables and really make you get involved in the class. Best year of my life so far.

As a freshman, I'm happy overall. I know I will find a good job. The only concern I have so far is specifying what I really wanna do as a career.
College Junior 2013-03-06T14:46:37Z
I am a Biology Major. There is so much that you have to do in order to get to the end result which is graduate. It is fun though. There are alot of seminar and speakers who come out. That is often helpful. The curriculum is something that I have never heard of. They have "core" class which is more explaination of why this is happening in this world then the basics. I love those classses though. I do wish, however, they they require you to take english.
College Junior 2013-03-06T14:42:05Z
The athletics at Oglethorpe are the main focus her. I do wish that they had football because that is the only thing that we are missing. You cant really have homecoming or bands or experience that life like other college students can experience. It also outlaws all other activities because they are more focused on funding them then any other "sport" you may want to add to the campus.
College Junior 2013-03-06T14:40:20Z
The school does not provide transportation. They promised commuters a shuttle and we never got it. We have to either ride the marta (which cost money), walk (which takes a while if you walk, or catch a ride. Oglethorpe does not think about there students at all.
College Junior 2013-03-06T14:32:05Z
The need to have better computers and computer space for the students. They also need to have it to where all of the computers do not run on the same modem so that they can load faster.
College Sophomore 2013-03-05T20:51:32Z
It's been really cold lately so everyone likes staying inside. The walk to classes isn't great but once the weather gets really nice everyone hangs outside together.
