Emerson is Oglethorpe's sole dining area, and it provides students with an ample amount of options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even inbetween meals. Unfortunately, there was recently a health scare that was traced back to the cafeteria's broken dishwasher. Whether or not this attribution is correct, the association has had a profound effect on the students; many of them are now concerned with the cafeteria's perceived lack of cleanliness.
Outside of these problems, Emerson is a fine institution. The staff is friendly, and the meals are unique, although some students would prefer simpler, more-balanced dishes. The staff is willing to work with these students as well as with any others who have nutritional needs or specific food preferences. While Emerson may not have everything perfected, it is certainly making the effort.
There are many choices available for vegetarians/vegans, picky-eaters, and students with sensitive stomachs. An entire section is devoted to "Cucina Verde," while another serves salads and a third always has cereal. Pizza is available daily, as are deli meats and desserts. Sometimes students won't enjoy the majority of meals available to choose from, but they can always find something to eat.
